Mexicans do Christmas bigger than anyone. Goes from December 16 to the 25th. Essentially a week of good food, good company, and lots of drinking/praying. You will see church congregations going down the streets singing with candles, some going door to door for "posadas" which usually is just candy or tamales or some shit. There are 9 stops and they're determined ahead of time tho so nobody goes bothering you with knocking. There are pinatas to be broken all week long. They set off fireworks on Christmas eve. The weather is usually warm and everything is shut down so there's tons of people partying in the streets for the 24th and 25th.
Nativity sets are huge too. My aunt has one with a running waterfall, trains, etc. Takes up a whole wall of her house.
Meanwhile Americans and Europeans usually dread the holidays, and usually only celebrate one or two days. Most of it is commercialized with high ticket items being opened on Christmas day. Mexicans usually just get each other small gifts if anything at all. Most of the holiday is about food, family, and friends. Also why would Russia want to bridge themselves and Africa? Africa is in general an energy exporter, and their needs are fairly modest.
Pipelines take a lot of work and planning. Sometimes they even reverse flows, depending on where demand lies. Their capacity is limited. They aren't just magic teleportation devices.
Africa is a rapidly developing nation and will need gas. It's also part of an infrastructure initiative that China and Russia have been doing in Africa for a whole now. They want it to be the next manufacturing state, and they want political clout. You can already see NATO support edging east. Plus a lot of corrupt leaders are giving them fantastic deals. Like how Somalia gave out 31 fishing licenses to Chinese companies, with one of them being COFA which represents over 150 Chinese fishing companies. Literally just selling out their land.
Russia is also funding nuclear plants in Africa, which... I don't even know. They recently gave Egypt 29 billion to do so. They're helping a bunch of nations do this. There's a list here.

Russia and China just want as much influence as they can. America gained influence through military means, but they're going for the economic victory.
I mean did you not see blackface at the Chinese New Year Gala a few years ago? Straight propaganda (only accidentally racist) about how they need to work with Africa.
