It's kind of impressive actually, but he's so apathetic that he won't even care.
After all, it is but a fleeting notion.
Impermanence and all that jazz.
Fucking depressing if you ask me.
That kind of attitude is often a coping mechanism. If you don't care, you can't be hurt. -

Originally posted by Rizzo in a box I dunno, I think I even disagree with that. This whole concern with "experience" just goes to highlight the impermanence of it all. What is an experience, except a memory in real time?
You can enjoy and benefit from memories and experiences. They help you grow as a person. Or they can anyway. Usually it takes lots of them. -

Originally posted by gadzooks While you're absolutely correct that the French were the first to truly colonize what is now considered Canada, there were definitely native aboriginals divided into all sorts of tribes.
The French settlers had many interactions with both the Algonquians and Iroquoians. There were inter-tribal rivalries happening right then and there in the 1500's when the French arrived, and they even had to occasionally choose sides.
I like you a lot gadzooks, so I'm going to tell you right here that I made that shit up
Although I was shockingly close on the year Andrew Jackson decided to steal a bunch of land. 1838 -

Originally posted by Zanick He was a linguist by profession, and it's often been argued that his undertaking in every book he wrote is more or less lexical masturbation. I'm not bilingual at all, so I can only be of limited help on this subject. What I can tell you is that Tolkien was not a fan of modernity, so if you want to speak Quenya/Sindarin in a way that's meaningful to your life, you'd probably have to fashion some creative substitutions to represent things like trains, planes, escalators, etc.
That said, I can point you in the direction of Ardalambion, which I'm told is an exhaustive resource for learning elvish and bits of other, less complete languages that Tolkien invented. If you click on the link for Quenya and scroll down to the section titled "The Structure of Quenya: A Brief Survey" you'll see its various elements explained clearly and concisely.
Do you think Quenya has sufficient vocabulary to describe how rock hard my cock is right now? That link is an absolute goldmine of brain sex. I love it, thanks for posting.
Have you considered studying Elvish? It's pretty fucking nerdy but you enjoy LOTR, so who gives a fuck. I bet you'd really enjoy being fluent in Quenya. If you ever decide to study it, let me know and I'll study some too so we can converse and talk mad shit on people in public. -
2018-11-28 at 4:16 AM UTC in If you haven't had an intense psychedelic trip, you have no idea how powerful the mind can beIn my memory, I have been the internet. I have existed in nothingness in a void for all of eternity. I have been humanity.
I have been killed and died. I have destroyed the distance that separates objects and beings from one another, and viewed the world as one big motherfucker, and was simultaneously all things at once.
I don't know why the human brain is capable of these things but it's pretty fucking cool that I actually have memory of living forever and transferring my consciousness to a strawberry and shit. It still FEELS real, like it was something that actually happened.
If you're someone who values experiencing everything you can in the world, I don't know how you could pass on trying psychedelics. I'm not going to say that you should try every drug if you want to experience what the world has to offer, but psychedelics are a little bit special in that regard. You go places in your head and everything is fresh. It's like a spring cleaning and trip abroad all in one. It's a totally unique experience in the world. Nothing short of mental illness can emulate it but I don't have any mental illnesses so I can't speak on that. -

Originally posted by RisiR † Also, German is completely useless outside of Germany, Austra and Switzerland. It has zero crossover with anything. Maybe Dutch a little bit but that's a stretch. The only reason to learn it is to read German literature the way it's meant to be. Don't visit Germany, either. I'd never waste a trip to this shithole. There is literally nothing to do here that you can't do anywhere else for cheaper.
German shares relations with Swedish, Danish, and actually shares more in common with Norweigan than English.
You guys are not understanding that I'm not trying to speak languages by learning other languages, I am trying to build foundation to learn multiple languages. I'm really into the linguistic minutia between languages. Seeing how languages have evolved, split, and built off one another. It's interesting shit. Here's an example of how what I know now would help me learn.
I just translated 'Hello my name is §m£ÂgØL and I love watching lions on television' into Norwegian. Hei mitt navn er §m£ÂgØL, og jeg elsker å se på løver på tv
hei- Hi/hey/etc. Easy one.
mitt- Means 'my.' Spanish has 'mi' for this, which is not too big of a difference. Pronounced the same, just add a t.
navn- Means name. Similar to name. Same vowel pronunciation.
er- Means 'is' and is like a weird conjugated 'estar' in Spanish, which is 'to be' but conceptually very similar.
se- Means 'see' and is only one letter off. Rhymes with 'ver' in spanish.
tv- Obviously means tv but it is pronounced 'teva'. I don't think I need to explain how English helps me know what this is. I know English contributes the most borrowed words but there are many borrowed words between languages. Usually the most common words are what's borrowed or similar, like you can see here. -

We won't be having any of that now.
We could go the route of kava and add reverse tolerance. I believe the kavalactone responsible for this is kavain, which is an allosteric something something something something. It increases the amount of receptor sites though, which is pretty fucking interesting when you think about it. Imagine your drug addiction getting CHEAPER over time. -

Originally posted by gadzooks The field is still in its infancy, so it's really hard to speak in terms of technical protocol, but, for one, I would create a bunch more targeted dopamine receptors (because too much dopamine in the wrong parts of the brain == schizophrenia).
Then, I'd upregulate some custom GABA receptors that don't induce benzo-like amnesia, so as to be in a tranquil state for the experience.
Then, I'd start experimenting with inducing hallucinations (i.e. the "trippy/psychedelic" part of the whole experience).
And then, maybe I'd selectively upregulate AMPA receptors so as to form more connections during the experience, so that it stays with you and you can recall it vividly at any time for decades to come.
I like the GABA idea. GABAgadzooks. GABAg
I was trying to find this information on an opiate that was apparently non-psychoactive but still had some pretty decent analgesic properties. Can't find shit tho. Idk if anyone knows what I'm talking about, but I really wanna look at the mechanism for that right now. I really need to start taking notes. -

lol.
Yeah, there's no point in calculating the first few billion years because the earth was an unrecognizable toxic sea of volcanic activity.
These numbers were gathered by drilling into antarctic ice. This is as far back in history as we can go here. There is no other known way to know what it was like beyond the limits of antarctic ice. Nothing else holds pollution quite like ice/water.
800k years ago we were in an ice age, which is why this is the last period we have on record. Much of it melted and literally formed seas it was so much water.
Anything beyond this time doesn't matter as rich oxygenation we will never see again raised temperatures so drastically. We're working with a different playing field now. Volcanoes are not as active. Our methane ducts are not as active. That's why c02 levels are ESTIMATED to have been drastically higher during the age of dinos. As plants evolved, a lot of that went away. In the carboniferous period much of the world was jungle and swamp because the atmosphere was so rich.
But now we know it isn't the vents, or volcanoes, or lack of plants. We have ruled out those things. Have yet to see someone show evidence of climate change being due to other causes, they only regurgitate that the earth always changes. They don't see that it has never changed like this, this quickly. We're talking decades here, not the thousands of years it takes for ice ages to come and go. This is too fast.
