If you want to understand Watergate it's that Nixon wasn't actually a crook - the whole thing was smoke without much in the way of fire. The Democrats and the Republicans were in an escalating game of tit for tat, with illegal shit on either side up to and past the Watergate burglary, but the jedis (not much else, just the jedis) made such a big deal of Nixon's attempt to distance himself from the Watergate burglary - not even cover it up, just distance himself from it - they never even showed that he had even anything to do with it - that they were able to bully him into resigning.
It was one of the main moments - along with the passage of the 1964 immigration act or the 2003 gulf war - when the jedis really took over the United States. The US was no longer a white country - it was a jedi country, run for the jedis, by the jedis.

The reality behind this absurd design is more interesting: the alleged "standard" had never been anything more than a publicity stunt orchestrated by Google and their (at that time) lapdog Mozilla. The reason why they did that was to block a competing DNT mechanism, proposed by Microsoft as a W3C standard. Microsoft's design stopped your browser from connecting to a tracker site completely. It didn't rely on the tracker's good will and honesty; it was a pro-consumer, not pro-ad industry solution.
Google realized the danger, and proposed a different mechanism (the current "standard"). Via their membership in the Digital Advertising Alliance and other ad industry groups (participants in the W3C's standardization commitee), they forced it through, with great fanfare, thus blocking the consumer-friendly alternative.
The ridiculousness of the design was obvious at the time. Just a few things: it's impossible to enforce your settings against a non-cooperating site. It's impossible to even confirm whether your request is being honored. There's no mechanism for a site to notify you in advance that it won't respect the DNT header. Add the fact that it's opt-out (leaving the less-technical majority of users unprotected by default), and it's pretty clear who the "standard" was for - hint: it was not for consumers.

I mean I've searched for different things lately, and google is not complying.
Things like the Google Diversity of Viewpoints/(((James Damore))) thing, or Ann Coulter videos being hidden by youtube, or Alex Jones being de-platformed.
Google used to be on our side, same as Twitter.
I guess as their founders (who were already rich kids) have ascended into Pantheonhood they have totally turned on us normal humans.
And the machine learning has just gotten so good. For instance I try googling "JFK Secret Service Standown" and the first thing I get is a video trying to debunk it in some strange way (it seriously made no sense and went on like 15 minutes).
Yet the smart kids are still producing content. For instance I just stripped out the dumbass boomer breitbart watermark from the Google Censorship document, and I was like "wow, this really should be a totse text file".
The big problem is our own success - we don't just make text files any more, we make videos, PDFs, audio files, etc.
The fat man Jeff Hunter was dead wrong when he said TTFN in 2009, and declared that the internet had been opened. It's a scary future we have in front of us and I hope we totse kids can see that clearer than anyone.
