And, it costs me almost $25 for a new liquid line fil=ter-drier. Luckily I've got Freon, a recovery machine and vacuum pump already. Job probably would cost $500-$1000 from an HVAC company. Also, I had to bring my large bolt cutters to remove the lock from the disconnect box and my special keys to remove the anti-huffing caps on the Schraeder ports. All because some moron probably never pulled a vacuum on the system when they installed it. My daughter complained about her high electric bills last summer. Her husband replaced all the windows in the house recently and, with my A/C repairs, her bills should go down significantly this year.

    
    Besides windows, what do you recommend to save money during winter/summer? Things you can replace in the actual unit?
