To be more precise, It's only the foreigners who call Albanians this way, and the country Albania. But the Albanians (ALL), call themselves Shqipetar (it comes from the word Eagle) and Albania is called Shqiperia (The Land of Eagles). And they are very proud of that too. Well, we, are a proud lot.

Yes, in the north (Trieste, Venezia, Udine) tend to be much taller, blonde etc. And of course there are also mixed with Slovenia, Croatia, Austria. In Center-South peple tend to be shorter and darker. The climate is different in the south also, much more warmer and the sea etc. But many in Sicily are blonde actually. White skin with blue eyes, cause of the Norman invasion back then.

And then there are the albanian origin, called Arberesh (not the new immigrants from Albania pos 90). These are the descendants of the Albanians who migrated to Italy, after the Ottoman conquests in 1500 circa. That triggered a great Albanian exodus mainly to Venice, the kingdom of Naples and Sicily.
