Maybe not in dumb dumb California or New Bork but most places in the US they can live comfortably on that.

I'm from Minnesota and the fact that two cops quit a police force that has little to no crime is funny. They are pissed because they aren't getting overtime because there's barely any crime. The sheriff's office already said they have plenty of officers. My cousin made less than 20 and another in the worst part of Minneapolis but he made 120k with overtime.

N.W.T. wildfires destroy town of Enterprise, threaten Yellowknife: ‘Everything I loved in life is gone’

“There’s a lot of questions. There’s a lot of concerns. I’ve seen a lot of misinformation going out on social media. The fact that we can’t share news links on Facebook is making that incredibly difficult to address,” Blake said.

Climate crisis is accelerating, scientists warn, after unusually warm July breaks Australian records | Many weather stations in Sydney, Melbourne and Hobart clocked their highest July temperatures ever as the country’s winters get hotter

“We’ve warmed Australia by almost one-and-a-half degrees Celsius due to our greenhouse gas emissions,” King said. “And so our winters are warmer, and we’ll continue to see it getting warmer.

“Our greenhouse gas emissions are still at record-high levels. We’re warming the planet at record speed and we’re warming Australia really quickly as well.

“The longer we continue and the faster we continue emitting greenhouse gases, the more warming we’ll see.”

‘Game-changer’: judge rules in favor of young activists in US climate trial | Sixteen young plaintiffs had alleged the Montana state government had violated their right to a healthy environment

Among the policies the challengers targeted was a provision in the Montana Environmental Policy Act (MEPA) barring the state from considering how its energy economy impacts climate change. This year, state lawmakers amended the provision to specifically ban the state from considering greenhouse gas emissions in environmental reviews for new energy projects.

That provision is unconstitutional, Seeley ruled.

“By prohibiting consideration of climate change, [greenhouse gas] emissions, and how additional GHG emissions will contribute to climate change or be consistent with the Montana constitution, the MEPA limitation violates plaintiffs’ right to a clean and healthful environment,” Seeley wrote.

Summers lost to fire and smoke. Biblical floods. Dying forests. Retreating coasts. Economic turmoil and political unrest. It’s going to be a weird century. Here’s what it will look like—and how Canada can get through it.

This is not what our country will look like if the world fails to reduce emissions—this is our future even if we do. Everything in these pages comes from peer-reviewed scientific studies and conversations with dozens of experts in climate science, political science, history, health and economics. Some of the specifics may be hazy, but the basic picture we can divine is clear and sobering. The question facing us now is twofold: how to live in this future we’ve already created, and how to make sure it doesn’t get any worse.

'Who will buy my house if they can't get insurance' | As extreme weather events multiply, home insurance providers in the US are rapidly raising rates - or quitting the business altogether - forcing many into severe financial distress.

Across the country, home insurance prices are spiking, as companies raise rates and limit coverage, responding in part to the fallout from more frequent extreme weather, which scientists attribute to climate change.

Dozens of smaller insurers have gone out of business, unable to withstand the shock of multiple billion-dollar disasters.

In states heavy hit by storms, wildfires and flooding, such as California, Florida and Louisiana, some big providers have stopped writing new policies altogether.

Companies say the upheaval reflects the huge number of claims in recent years, rising costs of repairs underlined by inflation, and growing risks in the years ahead, as climate-change induced catastrophes multiply.
