I don't know. To state that something exists seems to imply that something else is obseverving the existence of that thing... unless maybe it is observing itself?

No, I suppose even that statement "I exist" is in contrast to a state of nonexistence or nothingness, or some sort of environment which I exist within.

That depends what the person asking the question means by god, though.

Too true, I am just mentioning a personal anecdote. This same lady was actually raised catholic (she's Filipino). She was originally married to her husbands brother, but according to her he died while trapped in a fire in a garage. Apparently the police didn't even investigate his death, according to her. Anyways after he died, she had to marry his brother. I don't know why, I think it's pretty fucked up, she says it was for cultural reasons (He is from Sudan). They don't love each other. Pretty sure he thinks he's some sort of gangster. He also probably has a second family in Sudan. The lady I'm talking about seems to be at least semi-retarded, like she has problems forming coherent sentences sometimes. Worlds a fucked up place, man.

There was a drive-by shooting in my alley some months ago. Someone shot up a car. This Muslim lady who lives over there in the low-income housing said her husband knew the shooter (another muslim) but they didn't tell the police. She is afraid of her husband.

If that's true then Heaven and Hell make no sense and they would basically useless unless hell is just a demon hangout and Heaven is just a really big supernatural house for God. I'm pretty sure if I was burning in a lake of fire with billions of other evil assholes I'd be pretty aware of it.

Heaven and hell aren't places you go to when you die they are mental states you live in here and now. Life can be heaven or hell depending on how you live it.

Vibrators were invented because women used to become mysteriously "hysterical" and would go see doctors who would "cure" them by "massaging" their pussy with their fingers and warm water. So many women required these treatments that doctors spent most of their time doing this and it was exhausting. Eventually they started teaching husbands to do this, and vibrators were invented because it made it even easier.

Originally posted by Lanny Yeah, this. I mean to be fair Orwell was writing fiction. Politically charged fiction sure, but it's really only in interpretation by edgy teenagers that it's taken to be an actual political argument that's somehow applicable to the real world. As literature it's very long winded in setting up its world, like way more time on exposition than there was any reason for, especially since Orwell is one of those writers with a massive hardon for direct writing. "Book in a book" is almost always a shitty trope (see Borges for how it's supposed to be done) and Orwell did it worse than most in 1984. His main character is both a literal and figurative cuck who's only quality to endear himself to readers is how much everyone and everything shits on him.

Animal Farm's barnyard animals are literally more human characters than the cast of 1984. I actually think Orwell's nonfiction has its charm, Shooting an Elephant really impressed me when I read it. It's just that his most popular novel is an absolute trainwreck.

    What's shooting an elephant about?
