“Not a single drop of rain has fallen in more than eight months,” said Salvador Alcántar, a congressman in Chihuahua. “Climate change is here to stay, we have to learn to deal with it.” River water and groundwater supplies are fast diminishing and farmers have been suffering for years, he told CNN.

Today’s rate of atmospheric CO₂ increase is 10x faster than at any other point in the past 50,000 years. During the largest of the natural rises, CO₂ increased by ~14 ppm in 55 years, occurring about once every 7,000 years or so. At today’s rates, that magnitude of increase takes only 5 to 6 years.
“Studying the past teaches us how today is different. The rate of CO2 change today really is unprecedented,” said Kathleen Wendt, an assistant professor in Oregon State University’s College of Earth, Ocean, and Atmospheric Sciences and the study’s lead author.
“Our research identified the fastest rates of past natural CO2 rise ever observed, and the rate occurring today, largely driven by human emissions, is 10 times higher.” -

As sea levels rise and storms intensify, coastal real estate is seeing flooding and erosion like never before. From Dana Point, California, to Long Island, New York, and Nantucket, Massachusetts, some of the nation’s priciest coastal real estate is in an increasingly precarious position due to climate change.
This year’s hurricane season is already underway, and the forecast is for “above-normal” activity, according to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA). It predicts up to 13 hurricanes, with four to seven categorized as “major” storms. -

Donner compares it to a cancer diagnosis.
"We know that cigarette smoking causes lung cancer, but your doctor is not going to tell you which cigarette will be the one that gives you cancer," Donner said.
"And so we know climate change causes more heat waves, more heavy rainfall and more storm surges. But we can't look at the heat wave and say exactly, 'This one is caused by climate change.'"
Climate scientists have changed their approach to such questions, he said, by looking for models that define the likelihood of climate change playing a role in a specific weather event.
"So everything's being affected by climate change. So the question really is, how much more likely or how unusual is this event?" he said. -

The United States is bracing for chaotic weather this week, with the South set to experience another heat wave following a short respite from searing temperatures earlier this month. The National Weather Service expects some areas to reach temperatures so high they'll hit new daily records.
And it's not just the U.S. Across the Northern Hemisphere, in Europe and Asia, extreme temperatures are causing deadly heatstroke and early wildfires ahead of the start of the astronomical summer on Thursday. -

China has experienced extreme weather events over recent years which experts say are linked to rising global temperatures caused in large part by carbon emissions.
Climate change is also believed to be behind recent deadly heatwaves in India and South-East Asia. -

Big money is finally waking up to the fact that climate change is a gigantic problem. Property is the world’s greatest store of wealth, with a total value just shy of $380 trillion. This is four times global GDP. But there’s a new kind of toxic asset emerging in property portfolios. The number of homes in what you might call “subprime” locations is rising and, in some parts of the world, property value—like a crumbing coastline—is at risk of erosion. Lenders are getting noticeably more reluctant to lend against these assets. No wonder. In the Asia-Pacific region, nearly one in 10 properties owned by real estate investment trusts could be at “high risk” of climate-change-related damage—particularly those on seafronts, a report from climate risk consultancy XDI announced in May.

More than 130 health professionals have been arrested for climate protest in the last few years. Information published by the British government on climate change and health in May 2022, which quotes from the Lancet, a leading medical journal, helps explain why so many are ready to risk their livelihoods for the public:
The science is unequivocal; a global increase of 1.5°C above the pre-industrial average and the continued loss of biodiversity risk catastrophic harm to health that will be impossible to reverse. -
