After their three game sweep of the Boston Red Sox, the Baltimore Orioles head home to face their far away foes http://www.marinersfanaticsjersey.com/edwin-diaz-jersey-c-3.html, the Seattle Mariners.

The last time the Baltimore Orioles played the Mariners, the Orioles went one for three in Seattle. They scored 11 runs to win the first game of the series but gave up 10 in the two that followed.

This series is an important one for the Orioles as the Mariners are 0.5 games ahead of them in the Wild Card race. With a few wins, the Orioles could inch their way closer to that tightly contested second spot.

The one thing that will stand in the way of the Orioles getting closer to the second Wild Card spot is the pitching. This series sees the weakest parts of the O’s rotation facing a trio of Mariners’ pitchers who are far from being household names.

    Monday night starters

The party gets started on Monday night as Chris Tillman starts against Marco Gonzalez. Tillman was most recently in the bullpen prior to his last start against the Los Angeles Angels. http://www.marinersfanaticsjersey.com/hisashi-iwakuma-jersey-c-4.html Tillman’s ERA in his last three games is 4.70, but he gave up 6 walks in 7.2 innings. Gonzalez has an ERA of 4.73 in his last three starts. He is the current replacement for Felix Hernandez who is on the Disabled List with shoulder bursitis.

Tuesday night is the best chance for a win

Tuesday night features Dylan Bundy, who has a 3.79 and is 2 0 in his last three starts, against Erasmo Ramirez. The young Mariners pitcher was acquired from the Tampa Bay Rays prior to the July trade deadline. In his last three starts with the Mariners, he has an ERA of 2.00.

The Orioles have seen Ramirez a handful of times when he was with the Rays. They saw him twice in 2017, the last time was on July 1 where he pitched in the sixth, seventh, and eighth innings. He struck out two batters and gave up three hits. He also pitched in four innings to finish the game on April 26. The Orioles won that game 5 4.

    Wednesday afternoon face off

Wednesday’s afternoon game features Ubaldo Jimenez against Ariel Miranda. Jimenez has an ERA of 8.59 with two losses in his last three starts. Miranda pitched one game for the Orioles in 2016 and was traded to the Mariners at the July deadline that same year. His trade is the one that netted the Orioles Wade Miley. Miranda has a 4.62 ERA , 123 strike outs, and a win loss record of 8 and 6 in 2017. He certainly has the edge over Jimenez with one exception Miranda is currently leading the American League with home runs allowed. He has given up 31 Nelson Cruz Jersey, but Jimenez is close behind with 29.

Big Orioles hits in the previous series

In the previous series in Seattle http://www.marinersfanaticsjersey.com/steve-cishek-jersey-c-2.html, a few of the Orioles hitters showed serious power. In the win on August 14, Manny Machado recorded his second Grand Slam of the month. In the same game, Trey Mancini, Tim Beckham, and Seth Smith also recorded home runs. Jonathan Schoop went yard and scored the only Orioles run in the game on August 15. On August 16, Beckham hit second home run in as many days, but the Orioles lost that game 6 7 when Jimenez pitched against Gonzalez.

Like any player, San Francisco Giants outfielder Denard Span worries about hitting nasty curveballs and losing fly balls in the sun. But he’s got another concern when he’s playing at his home stadium birds pooping on him in the field.

“I’m afraid of them dropping something, using the bathroom on top of me,” Span said. “Or maybe them dropping some food near me and then all of them just freaking swarming me.”

It’s a possibility, considering how regularly flocks of gulls come in off the San Francisco Bay to hover low over the Giants’ AT T Park.

Sports venues across the country struggle to wave off pigeons, bats and gulls, but the two Bay Area ballparks’ proximity to the water and dumps attracts birds in large flocks. It has been such a problem at the Oakland Coliseum that stadium operations officials added a pair of vinyl kites this season in an effort to fend them off.

Gulls typically feed at dumps, but marine biologists say recent efforts taken by some nearby sites to bury the waste faster have kept the feathered creatures away. Now, the gulls circle Bay Area ballparks in the hundreds to scour for leftovers such as those popular garlic fries, creating a nuisance for fans and players – not to mention the grounds crew that goes back to work on the infield http://www.giantsfanaticsjersey.com/javier-lopez-jersey-c-37.html, basepaths and mound the moment a game ends.

That prompted the two teams to experiment with unconventional measures of dealing with their respective bird business.

In Oakland, the bird brigade was becoming such a problem that the Athletics added two falcon shaped kites this season to try to scare off the gulls. The kites even have catchy nicknames chosen by fans “Falcon McFalconface” and “Scott Hattebird,” after former A’s star Scott Hatteberg.

“We took off the tarps in the third deck for the first time in several years, so it seemed to open up the opportunity for the birds to come,” said David Rinetti, the A’s vice president of stadium operations.

There were a few day games this season when more than 300 gulls circled in and around the ballpark. Players and fans noticed, complaining the birds were making a mess. So Rinetti and his Matt Duffy Jersey staff needed a solution – and fast.

“I looked up ‘bird abatement, Bay Area’ online and came up with a company that provided these kites that are falcons that supposedly worked to keep seagulls away,” Rinetti said.

They are doing the job so far. The duo even startled Span when the Giants played a Bay Bridge Series game in Oakland earlier this month.

“It got me at first. I thought they were real,” the center fielder said.

At the Giants’ waterfront ballpark, as fans leave, another competition begins gulls fly in from McCovey Cove to hunt for snacks.

“They eat food, scoop it up, compost it,” Giants head groundskeeper Greg Elliott said. “It’s fine for us, but the birds are more of a nuisance for ballplayers.”

In 2012, the Giants were counting on a red tailed hawk nicknamed Bruce Lee to solve their “gull drums.” His presence kept the skies clear for a while. The team built a box for Lee to nest in, hoping to keep the gull chasing predator at AT T Park, Giants senior vice president of ballpark operations Jorge Costa explained at the time.

Yet Lee has since left his post, and, naturally, the gulls are back.

Eating leftovers is far from healthy for the birds, said marine biologist Dr. Jim Harvey, director of Moss Landing Marine Laboratories in Monterey County.

“They’re supposed to be eating fish and squid,” he said http://www.giantsfanaticsjersey.com/cory-gearrin-jersey-c-35.html, “so eating human food, especially ballpark food, that’s not good.”

Harvey, who also happens to be a longtime Giants season ticketholder, said he is hardly optimistic that baseball franchises will find a permanent, perfect solution because birds always adapt.

“You can put a physical barrier up, create netting around the whole park. But that’s not going to happen,” he said.

Span just wishes fans might consider doing their part by cleaning up their own messes http://www.giantsfanaticsjersey.com/derek-law-jersey-c-36.html, if only to benefit the birds – and keep them as far as possible from his center field workspace, of course.

“It is like a snow globe , and I’m surprised that one of them has not been struck by the ball,” longtime Giants bench coach Ron Wotus said.

Freak ballpark accidents involving birds have happened in the past.

Hall of Fame left handed pitcher Randy Johnson struck and killed a dove with a pitch in 2001. The now infamous video clip shows the ball drilling the bird, sending an explosion of white feathers into the air.

In 1983, star Yankees outfielder Dave Winfield inadvertently took a gull’s life in Toronto making a throw between innings. Police charged him with animal cruelty, but the charges were later dropped.

Wotus joked that if an accident does happen again, perhaps the Giants might take advantage.

“We can use a seagull ricochet for an RBI double,” he said, chuckling.

The Toronto Blue Jays can take no hope from the recent struggles of the Boston Red Sox, who lead the American League East.

That is because the Blue Jays are experiencing their own problems, playing themselves out of any reasonable chance of contending for a postseason spot.

While the Red Sox were swept in three games by the Baltimore Orioles over the weekend http://www.jaysfanaticsjersey.com/ryan-goins-jersey-c-19.html, the Blue Jays lost two of three to the visiting Minnesota Twins.

Boston, which lost 2 1 to the Orioles on Sunday, will take a four game losing into the opener of a three game series on Monday at the Rogers Centre.

The Blue Jays have lost seven of their past nine games after dropping a 7 2 decision to the Twins on Sunday.

The Red Sox s lead in the AL East has dwindled to 2 1/2 games over the New York Yankees. The Blue Jays are 12 games out and last in the division.

We re in a little bit of a dry patch, http://www.jaysfanaticsjersey.com/josh-donaldson-jersey-c-17.html Red Sox manager John Farrell said. You look at the last four games, early leads given up to the opposition.

But you take away that the turn of this last game in this four game stretch ... we played a solid game, and yet a two out base hit was elusive.

The Red Sox will start left hander Drew Pomeranz 13 4, 3.18 ERA on Monday against Blue Jays right hander Marcus Stroman 11 6, 3.17 .

Pomeranz is 3 0 with a 1.59 ERA in his past five starts. He has not allowed an earned run in his past 11 1/3 innings. He also has won a career best seven consecutive decisions.

Pomeranz is 2 0 with a 0.71 ERA against Toronto this year. He pitched 6 2/3 innings in his most recent outing against the Blue Jays on July 19 at Fenway Park, giving up just one run, which was unearned.

In six career appearances four starts against Toronto, he is 2 1 with a 2.11 ERA.

Before Sunday, when Doug Fister pitched well, the Red Sox had allowed 36 runs in the previous three losses.

To be quite frank with you, our team is built to have the starter keep the game under control early http://www.jaysfanaticsjersey.com/edwin-encarnacion-jersey-c-18.html, Farrell said. We re not a big swing of the bat type of lineup, so to play catch up, that s a little bit more difficult with the way we re constructed.

With Pomeranz going Monday and Chris Sale starting Tuesday, the Red Sox should expect some quality from their rotation in Toronto.

The Blue Jays, who have had problems with their starting staff, have received mostly quality starts from Stroman. He has a 2.92 ERA in his past eight starts but has only a 2 1 record to show for it. The team is 5 3 in those starts.

Stroman is coming off a no decision against the Tampa Bay Rays on Wednesday, when he allowed eight hits and five runs in 5 1/3 innings. He served up three homers in a game Toronto won 7 6.

Balls are flying out these days, Stroman said after that outing. Just is what it is. I didn t make particularly good pitches.

Stroman is 0 1 with a 4.76 ERA in two starts this season against the Red Sox and is 4 2 with a 4.47 ERA in nine career starts against them.

The Blue Jays are 3 7 against the Red Sox this season and 1 5 at the Rogers Centre, where Boston has outscored Toronto 41 17. The Jays will have two series against the Red Sox in September, both at Fenway Park.

Toronto gave both center fielder Kevin Pillar and right fielder Jose Bautista the day off Sunday.

The Blue Jays continued to fiddle with their rotation Sunday when they recalled Joe Biagini from Triple A Buffalo to face the Twins. Biagini, making his 12th start for Toronto and his first since July 2, took the loss after allowing nine hits Matt Dominguez Jersey, three walks and five runs in 3 2/3 innings.

It was a tough day for him, obviously , Toronto manager John Gibbons said. I thought he may have been overthrowing a little bit because his ball was definitely up in the zone. They barreled it pretty good.

An excellent showing of power helped the A’s sweep the Texas Rangers over the weekend. Khris Davis and Chad Pinder had multi homer games over the weekend and the A’s launched six home runs overall.

The Oakland Athletics may not be in the running for a playoff spot, but they sure looked like a contender this weekend against the visiting Rangers. The A’s outscored the Rangers 19 7 during their three game set at the Coliseum.

Bob Melvin watched his team succeed this weekend thanks to an outstanding display of power. Matt Olson http://www.athleticsfanaticsjersey.com/tyler-ladendorf-jersey-c-17.html, Matt Chapman, Chad Pinder and Khris Davis recorded a home run during the series this weekend.

In fact, Pinder and Davis each recorded two home runs against the Rangers. Davis launched two home runs on Friday night and Pinder collected two on Saturday. On Sunday, it was Olson and Chapman that hit one of out the park.

The A’s offense has been hit or miss this year http://www.athleticsfanaticsjersey.com/max-muncy-jersey-c-18.html, but Melvin should be happy with how his team performed this weekend. The A’s rank 6th in the American League with 180 team home runs. They were last in the AL with 169 just a year ago.

The boost in power is thanks to a handful of players including the following

    KHRIS DAVIS

Davis is slashing just .210/.293/.580 in August, but has collected 8 home runs in the process. The A’s know Davis will have his share of struggles at the plate, but they should also be happy with his display of power.

Entering Monday, Davis is behind only Aaron Judge for most home runs in the AL. Judge has 37 on the year. With one more month to go, Davis should eclipse last year’s total of 42 home runs. Overall, Davis is slashing .235/.323/.522 with 36 HR and 90 RBI.

    RYON HEALY

Healy impressed a few people last season in limited action. This year, Healy has looked like a rising young star for the A’s. He has collected 23 home runs and is slashing .264/.296/.464 on the year.

Healy has been successful lately and is hitting .284 in August. Over his last 13 starts, Healy is 18 for 51. The A’s have a strong young core developing and Healy is part of it.

    MATT JOYCE

Joyce was once figured to be on the way out of Oakland following his slow start. The A’s unloaded several veterans due to slow starts including fan favorite Stephen Vogt. Despite his disappointing start, however Sonny Gray Jersey, the A’s gave Joyce a chance to turn things around.

He has done just that and now has 19 home runs on the year. Joyce has collected six home runs this month and is continuing his second half surge. His two year deal suddenly does not look as bad as it did earlier in the year.

    JED LOWRIE

Lowrie has had a nice year for the A’s. Despite the team’s struggles this year, Lowrie has remained consistent at the plate and on the field. In fact http://www.athleticsfanaticsjersey.com/marcus-semien-jersey-c-19.html, Lowrie will enter Monday leading the A’s in average, on base percentage and hits. He even has a higher OWAR 2.9 than Davis 2.8 does.

The A’s will likely pick up Lowrie’s team option for next season. He has performed well throughout the year and has managed to stay healthy after an injury plagued 2016 season. Lowrie has collected 12 home runs and 40 doubles this year.

    PINDER, OLSON AND CHAPMAN

The A’s have a nice core of young players starting form. With Healy, Olson and Chapman the A’s have three nice options for their infield. Ponder, meanwhile, is Oakland’s version of Ben Zobrist. Not only has Pinder provided stability in the infield, but he has also shined in the outfield.

Pinder has collected 12 home runs while Olson 9 and Chapman 10 have provided the A’s with plenty of power as well. The trio of Pinder, Olson and Chapman has been especially fun to watch this month as it gives a small glimpse into what lies ahead for the A’s
