are you saying FTP is a dialup service thing only? aren't FTP still used in internet? p2p use internet?
it's a very simple file upload/download command with a bunch of conflicts with the way the internet works nowadays, specifically around NAT, transmission control etc.
there are better options, even just an ssh wrapper (scp/sftp) resolves most of them -
