2015-11-18 at 1:23 AM UTC in How old are you and what are your plans for your life?
I'm 18, and just like any other young adult. I will take my SAT, then go to college, then get a job, then marry someone, then have kids.
how would you feel if you caught your kids huffing duster from a plastic sleeve? -

I always thought you were younger than me SBT, I'm late 20s and struggling to find something I care about -
2015-11-17 at 3:02 AM UTC in Ok guys help me own this network.I was going to post you can redirecvt python output to a file then cat the file if you're worried about output being returned to you correctly, just noticed you already tried that though.
don't even worry about the zone nonsense, I suspect he's talking about network segments (specific subnets set up for different functions, ie servers on 192.168.1.0/24 and workstations on 192.168.2.0/24 with rules set so that only certain types of traffic between the two are allowed) but that's not relevant here because you've already established a connection. control and return data should be carried by the same tunnel, like with ssh as opposed to ftp. -
2015-11-17 at 12:24 AM UTC in your tax dollars at work - another police murder
You know whats unreasonable (and by unreasonable I mean what will probably get you shot)? Going about it any other way than complete compliance with the officer. I'm not saying the officer acted reasonably but you are a high strung moron if you think that any other course of action that is not "Yes officer, no officer" is going to get you far. The thing about the system of law in this country is that, the police dont decide who is guilty. You may get taken into custody but in reality that isnt even a big deal. Any smart human being will allow themselves to be taken into custody, talk to their lawyer, and sue the shit out of the department when it comes back that there was no warrant and that the officer partook in unlawful action.
Only a moron is going to go "OH LOOK! THIS COP IS FUCKING MY SHIT UP AND ATTEMPTING TO SUBDUE ME! I BETTER GRAB AT HIS WEAPONS! THAT WILL SETTLE THE SITUATION."
I'd be willing to bet that guy was in fear for his life after the aforementioned variety bucket of beatings, so there probably wasn't much more running through his head than 'make it stop' when he tried to grab the taser -
2015-11-17 at 12:10 AM UTC in your tax dollars at work - another police murder
>try to grab cops weapon
>get shot
Sounds about right.
I don't think it's unreasonable to try to wrest away a taser if someone kicks in you door, beats the shit out of you, sprays mace in your face then starts shocking you, cop or otherwise -

short: local sheriffs are looking for someone, visit last known address, find someone else living there - they're told the person they're looking for no longer resides at the address.
sheriffs ask if they can search the place, resident tells them to get a warrant, sheriffs kick in the door, taser, mace and shoot him.

2015-11-16 at 3:30 AM UTC in Winning The Lottery Using Programmingthat would imply some causal connection between previous winning lottery numbers which doesn't exist (in a non-deterministic sense, anyway) as far as I know
most of the big players on the stock market do this though, trade based on algorithms... not sure how much it's progressed lately, only looked into it years ago
I heard MIT students were banned from some casinos too, after a team was able scan velocity and position data and accurately predict the outcome of roulette spins -

2015-11-16 at 12:15 AM UTC in A question on Ruby, plus thoughts and tools for exploiting XXE in OXML documents.sorry, meant to reply to this the other day
I've tried similar with XML parsers - I end up having to work with them a bit, haven't had any luck except crashing with lulzy malformed files. will give this a try though.
as for ruby I haven't used it at all, but that particular error refers to a .h file, which is generally a C header, so you're likely having issues building the ruby lib - zlib is a standard lunix compression library. searching for the file zlib.h in debian's repo search (https://packages.debian.org/search?suite=stable§ion=all&arch=any&searchon=contents&keywords=zlib.h) says it's part of the libpoco package, which is a standard C++ (gcc) component, so it'd seem you need to install the full dev environment as you're having compile issues.
you're not on lunix though so you can't just apt-get packages - another search says there's a zlib package for windows you could use, but I'd recommend doing a full gcc install otherwise there will probably be other dependency issues. -
2015-11-16 at 12:07 AM UTC in Built a Keyboardmost people who use 80/60/40 keyboards have multiple 'layers' mapped, so you can access different layouts by holding the function keys
the way I have it set up is where a normal keyboard has the caps-lock key, I have Fn1 - to turn on caps I hold Fn1 and hit tab; to use arrow keys I hold Fn1 and use a virtual directional pad with 'P' as the up key:
takes a little getting used to especially with blank keycaps, is pretty efficient once you're used to it. -

2015-11-14 at 12:50 PM UTC in Do fast food workers deserve a $15 wage?if mandated minimum wages jump, especially by something like 100%, the employer is certainly not going to want to eat that (especially in industries like food service) so he's going to raise prices and cut shifts, and is essentially not going to be able to deliver the same product or service at the same price - everything's going to be poorer quality or far more expensive
minimum wage workers don't work solely in food or manufacturing either - even then, manufacturing's a huge part of any economy -
