2016-09-13 at 12:06 AM UTC in CNC Mill Conversiona drill press is not designed to handle the lateral forces of horizontal cutting, best case it cuts inaccurately, worst case you fuck the motor up like I said, the MF70 is surprisingly capable, I've cut all sorts of things up to annealed steel (plastics, varying thicknesses of aluminium and carbon fibre up to billets of 'damascus' steel)

Well, psycho, looks like you've been shot down yet again. Can't even provide a single, solitary measurement of a lightning bolt's energy. I am disappoint.
http://www.atmo.arizona.edu/students/courselinks/spring07/atmo589/articles/SciAmNov88.pdf
haven't read it all, just skimmed over it so will wait to comment fully
it indicates a thunderstorm (not just a single lightning strike) can potentially rival the daily output of a nuclear power plant
also makes a point of talking about the difference between voltage difference and effective power delivered to ground.
fyi if you want to make an argument as to how much power a lightning strike can deliver, you need to consider wattage, ie. both voltage and amperage because one or the other alone means nothing in that regard. -
2016-09-12 at 4:04 AM UTC in CNC Mill ConversionI bought a Proxxon MF70 a while back (link), it's surprisingly high quality but also has an unfortunately small range of movement. I'm considering building an extension to the milling bench or just buying a larger one and mounting it, but that's for another time.
I'm planning on converting the machine to CNC; I've bought some basic mounting plates for NEMA17-sized motors (link, pretty good quality, tight fit/low clearance etc) and am now deciding on a controller.
I'm currently looking at this motor/controller/driver/psu kit, thhough to be honest I've done fucktonnes of reading on diy forums and am still not sure exactly what to look for. I'm aware I can use an arduino for a controller and shields/daughterboards for drivers, but as I haven't done this before I'm afraid of damaging parts through over/undervolting it and I'm not sure all the diy parts together will come to much less than the $200-300 asking price for full kits on ebay.
I know it's a long shot but I'm curious if anyone here's done similar and has advice. -

2016-09-12 at 3:49 AM UTC in How To Integrate a Backdoor Into a Windows OS As a Shell of the OS ItselfI was under the impression he was trying to create an ADS bind on launch because the syntax is similar (though it's been a long time since I've looked at it)
""1.exe %1" %*"
if you're just doing shell execution I'm pretty sure that won't actually work; you'd want to do "1.exe && %*"
what your line translates to is
"1.exe firstparameter" actualprogram.exe firstparameter
you'd also want to use the absolute path unless 1.exe is in the windows folder or some other $path
^the registry shell handlers are separate to environment variables. for example if you double-click a .pdf, it checks the shell handler list in the registry to see what normally opens a pdf document and runs that command. you'd probably expect to find something like the following:
"c:/path/to/pdfreader %*"
what he's doing is adding a handler to exe files, so any time you try to run an executable, windows uses another program to try to open it, in this case something malicious
dunno what the practical utility here is though to be honest considering you need local admin to get into the registry in the first place -

There's is enough energy in a single lightning bolt to power a city for years.
noWhen a bolt forms, sometimes it disperses into "droplets", also known as "ball lightning".
noEach ball can contain more power than an entire electricity plant.

2016-09-06 at 5:49 AM UTC in What drug(s) would you use as a truth serum on somebody?welcome to the 60s
there are no effective 'truth' drugs - the idea is to make a person 'forget' that they're supposed to keep something a secret, and anything that can suppress a person's ability to enhancement information also breaks their other 'enhancements' and anything they say becomes completely unreliable.
it's forseeable that in the near future, something like an EEG will be able to read and decipher a person's thought processes when they're asked questions, allowing an interrogator to glean answers people wouldn't otherwise give... I'm not looking forward to that.
