The BLM protests were much more violent on a much wider scale, resulting in far more death and destruction if this is your reasoning for the event being labeled an 'insurrection'.
Sure, call it a riot if you want, I don't personally think it quite meets that threshold but it's whatever.
Just because some cops were in on it, and let SOME people in, there were entrances where it was a fight.
the only ones that got in were let in by police. people trying to punch through police lines (especially when undermanned) are standard at any riot.
