  7. I assume the suburbs candy is talking about is kinda like how it is in Toronto where you have DOWNTOWN TORONTO and the hoods in the inner city but during the day to day most people I talk to out and about don't live anywhere near the city and commute quite a bit

I know it's also common in the BART area of california and pparently Baltimore , maryland, Annapolis that entire region is the same deal

You see it a lot in these oldje economic hubs that have had settlements and high population since colony days, out west its a totally different scene, I lived in a rural area and people would do X_weeks on X_weeks off type work or travel a lot, or you go back and forth between cities, districts on a semi regular basis

Like I knew a guy that got his kids every other weekend which worked out cuz he worked in that city and his schedule was set up so he could pick up his kids as he's going to the other city to work and drops them off, works at another office, goes home, then goes back to that office in another city (a few hours drive on the highway not fun in winter) and does that year round

  9. Technologically we provably had everything we needed to create a sufficient piece of forum software in the early 2000s. But vB3 reached end of life in 2007, its successor in vB4 suffered from bloat, abuse of AJAX where it wasn't necessary, and an almost absurdly bad/slow/overly abstract database design. PHPBB has gone down the same road. In general forum software has just become too complex when BBSs were basically solved over a decade ago.

The strengths of vB3 are what ISS attempts to reproduce and preserve. What ISS offers on top of this a clean modern codebase, more reasonable database design, support for useragents that don't have JS execution, or with JS disabled, and generally better client-side performance through more sane/modern resource usage, caching, and delivery strategies.

Thank you for clarifying this and bringing it all back home. we are BBSing here folx lets not forget

I might talk a lot of shit but SAY WHAT YOU WILL at the end of the day we are doing that through a BBS and that MATTERS

Exploring the Evolution and Distinction Between Bulletin Board Systems and Online Forums

    Abstract:
This paper delves into the historical development and nuanced differences between Bulletin Board Systems (BBS) and Online Forums. Despite their shared purpose of facilitating digital communication, BBS and online forums exhibit distinct characteristics in terms of their origins, technological aspects, user interactions, and cultural impact. Through careful analysis and citation of reliable sources, this paper aims to shed light on the evolution of these platforms and clarify the distinctions that set them apart.

    1. Introduction:
Bulletin Board Systems (BBS) and online forums have played significant roles in shaping the landscape of digital communication. While they both enable users to exchange information and ideas, they emerged in different eras and possess unique features that define their identities. This paper seeks to explore the evolution of BBS and online forums, as well as their fundamental differences.

    2. Historical Context:
Bulletin Board Systems originated in the late 1970s and gained prominence during the 1980s and 1990s. BBS were initially text-based systems that allowed users to dial in via modems to access discussions, share files, and play games. On the other hand, online forums emerged in the late 20th century with the advent of the World Wide Web. Forums capitalized on web technologies to offer threaded discussions and enhanced user experiences.

    3. Technological Aspects:
Bulletin Board Systems were typically run on individual computers, requiring users to dial in directly. They utilized various software platforms such as Wildcat!, Renegade, and RemoteAccess. In contrast, online forums are web-based and accessible through internet browsers, facilitating global participation. Forum software like phpBB, vBulletin, and Discourse revolutionized online discussions by providing advanced features like user accounts, moderation tools, and multimedia integration.

    4. User Interactions:
BBS interactions were often synchronous, requiring users to be online simultaneously for real-time conversations. Online forums introduced asynchronous communication, enabling users from different time zones to participate in discussions without the need for simultaneous presence. Forums also introduced the concept of "threads," allowing for structured conversations around specific topics.

    5. Cultural Impact:
Bulletin Board Systems fostered tight-knit communities around specific interests due to their limited reach and local nature. Online forums, with their global accessibility, facilitated the growth of diverse and expansive communities. Both platforms contributed to the digital subculture and played crucial roles in the early internet's development.

    6. Distinctions in Modern Context:
While the original distinctions between BBS and online forums remain relevant, technological advancements have blurred the lines between the two. Some modern platforms borrow elements from both, creating hybrid systems that incorporate real-time chats within forum environments. This convergence reflects the ever-changing nature of digital communication.

    7. Conclusion:
Bulletin Board Systems and online forums, despite sharing the goal of facilitating discussions, exhibit significant differences rooted in their historical context, technological foundations, user interactions, and cultural impact. While BBS thrived in an era of modem-based connectivity, online forums have flourished in the internet age. Acknowledging these distinctions enriches our understanding of the evolution of digital communication platforms.

  12. You can stick me all you want.. You wanna hurt me?

Go right ahead if it makes ya feel any better. I’m an easy target. Yeah. You’re right. I talk too much. I also listen too much. I could be a cold-hearted cynic like you, but I don’t like to hurt people’s feelings. Well, you think what you want about me. I’m not changin’. I like me. My kids like me. My friends like me. β€˜Cause i’m the real article. What you see is what you get.
  13. i feel like someone doesn't have to be a total idiot to fall to something of this nature which is the true insidiousness of horny as it can affect both the rich and poor, smart and stupid just as equally. Praying on the very human need to feel connection and I feel like i've known a lot of stoics that live simple "low social" lives where they dont meet a lot of people to avoid such situations in the first place.
