   They mixed it mostly with water. They considered straight wine to be poisonous.
   
   You can see why they would think that. For one thing, it tastes awful. And it would dehydrate you making you drink plain water, which could be deadly.

   Yeah I don't like the taste of wine either. And my idea of a good friday night is 2 tall boys of Steel Reserve and a few Black N Milds.

    I have the same problem. I can chug hard liqueur and be fine, but a few glasses of wine and I’ll wake up with a splitting headache.

    The highest possible alcohol content for wine is around 25% ABV. Most modern wines are around 12% to 15% ABV.
