These are considered two of the greatest boxers "in their prime" but I think their prime was pretty short.
Mike Tyson modeled himself after Jack Dempsey so it's interesting that their careers seemed similar too.
The only Jack Dempsey fight I saw was against Jess Willard and Dempsey did look impressive. Jess Willard beat Jack Johnson so he wasn't just some big idiot there to get beat on. He was the best pro boxer at the time. After that though I think his career was mediocre. It seems like people had his number.
Same with Mike Tyson. Seeing people throwing punches just swinging at the air looked good, but once it seemed like people had his number it seemed like people just kept knocking him out.
Is it as simple as that? Like when you learn how to box with someone left handed? The first time you do it it's like "wait something isn't right" then get your head knocked off but when you realize what it was and how to respond it's not as hard.
