Supporters of Israelβs Maccabi Tel Aviv football team were attacked in Amsterdam on Thursday night as they left the stadium after a Europa League match against Dutch side Ajax.
At least ten Israelis were injured in the attacks, but the severity of their injuries remains unclear, the Israeli Foreign Ministry stated, adding that the affected fans are currently out of contact. It advised Israeli citizens not to leave their hotels.
Basically israeli football fans (and possibly the team itself, Macabee Tel Aviv), were severely beaten down primarily by Turks and Moroccans living in the Netherlands. There were around 30 injured though it's not clear how severely, and the IDF is sending cargo planes to retrieve the team and the fans.
Most news is casting this as an 'unprovoked pogrom' and will not talk about what caused it; even the linked RT article only talks about an 'unknown individual taking down a Palestine flag'.
What actually appears to have happened is that the israeli fans rampaged through the streets the days prior, abusing Arabic people and in one case destroying a taxi and beating down the driver. They took down Palestine flags from businesses and abused/assaulted the people who ran them.
On the night of the match, they chanted 'Let the IDF win to fuck with the Arabs' and 'There are no more schools in Gaza because there are no more children'. They also repeatedly interrupted the minute of silence for the victims of the Valencia floods with shouting and fireworks as it is a popular talking point in israel that 'God punished Spain for not supporting israel in the war'.
As a result, a huge group of primarily Turks and Moroccans chimped out on them, beating them down and forcing them to say 'Free Palestine', then chasing them back to their hotels and shooting fireworks in the windows. There's one fun video where a group of taxi drivers beat an israeli fan down and throw him in the canal, then won't let him out until he says 'Free Palestine'.
