I don't think I said they didn't care for their kids. If I recall correctly (and I very well may not), I said something along the lines of "wealthy men manipulated poor girls into believing they had prospects for an upwardly mobile marriage, taking advantage of the social dynamics of the day". No? I can't remember. -
