Not very convenient if you're in Oxford and want to buy some food off somebody, only you both have to travel all the way to London just so you can transfer the btc to his wallet.

America would be even worse considering the vastness of the place.

we've exhausted all the major surface mineral deposits too so if the deep mining equipment fails (which it will without constant maintenance) any survivors will be locked out of the raw materials required

yes, the crypto community will be the first people to democratize this technology and it will happen before the grid goes down, it's happening already. There are entire supply chains being built without banks, central government or public money. It's a real life technological revolution the likes of which have never been seen in all of history and it's beautiful. This will last 10,000 years

    https://blog.bitmain.com/en/bitmain-announces-next-generation-7nm-asic-chip/

Bitmain has been committed to the development and launch of high-performance computing chips. Since its establishment, Bitmain has independently developed and mass produced a variety of chips. In 2016, Bitmain took the lead in releasing and mass-producing 16nm chips, applying them to its Antminer S9 miner and other models. The Antminer S9 quickly occupied international markets with its high-computing power, low power consumption and strong stability, and has become a leader in the global mining machine industry. In addition, Bitmain’s Antminer series of mining machines has introduced a variety of models that support different encryption algorithms to meet the global demand of different digital currencies.

As a world leading high-performance computing chip company, Bitmain has grown rapidly over the years. It now has multi-brand businesses including Antminer, Antpool, BTC.com and Sophon. Bitmain’s cryptocurrency mining machine has long been a world leader with a market share of more than 70%.

The 7nm chip reflects the R&D strength of Bitmain and further consolidates Bitmain’s industry position. For the entire industry, this not only accelerates the development of digital currency mining but also sets a new benchmark for quality, providing miners with a better mining experience.

Unlikely but a lot of 20th century technology wouldn't be too hard

And don't forget the concept of money is thousands of years old, very pre-medieval, would soon be easily applied. Ancient Greek's and shit were using money. Post WW3 survivors would soon implement it, be one of the first things they do, but not gonna be btc tho. creating markets creates demand which Humans are very good at creating solutions for, its what makes us what we are.

actually to be fair the homemade IC is pretty cool but it's impractical and relies on supply chains that will not exist post collapse

thinking that people will be able to maintain existing systems in a situation where general infrastructure has collapsed, let alone build new ones, is completely unrealistic.

nobody's going to care about gold or silver, let alone bitcoin, until long after the time where bullets, food and water are the index for trade

I mean there is no reason why at some stage they couldn't build something akin to Colossus and slowly evolve it from there like we did post WW2. Certainly if the need arose for some reason, and communities had gotten big enough that they could afford their best minds to work on such a thing. Humans are very ingenious when the need arises as we've proven time and time again throughout history. Its how we created those world destroying weapons in the first place.

I could see pre-WW2 level technology being quickly available once people started forming bigger communities.

Maybe if people lived in space but this is EARTH and in a grid down this problem will solve itself. Anyone that can't live off the land will die, everyone else will get fat and strong.

Mormon communes do NOT need electricity to function, they have their own independent supply chains and overproduce on purpose to sell to the secular world. They also have guns, machinery, mines, trucks, oil pumps. Do you think these people give a shit if "the world ends"? they are WAITING for it and that's just one small example, there are thousands of similar groups with that mindset and they will inherit the earth while the rest of humanity that relies on THE MACHINE and only knows how to get food by paying money at a store will wither and die because they placed all their trust in the system, instead of placing it in God

Hate to burst your bubble but if the scenario I painted aka WW3 happened you wouldn't be living off the land for 10,000 years

first of all, WW3 will never happen. Second of all in a true global grid down situation it would only be a problem immediately to people currently alive, within 1 generation humanity will have recovered completely.

It's only a problem for people that have all their bets on "the system" and they will be horrified when those TRILLIONS OF DOLLARS vanish into thin air and the global markets 0 out, except that will probably never happen because we already have technology that will outlast gold and paper money. NOBODY is going back to dark ages barter economy.

You can do bitcoin transactions on paper, you technically don't even need a computer and could record all transactions on paper and verify them by hand, it would be impossibly complex, the technology really only makes sense with machines existing but the math can be proven without them, this is why it's the most pure form of money because it exists independent of any outside forces
Although theoretical, it is possible for a human to solve this equation by hand; using a computer is just far faster and more efficient. In the beginning, a simple microprocessor was enough to mine Bitcoin, but as the difficulty increased, miners made a transition to systems with more powerful graphics card processors.

Unlike Gold which has to be mined and processed to be traded, or paper money which has to be manufactured and have a value determined, or bartering which require physical items to exist to be traded. Bitcoin is unlike all of these as it is essentially just an equation applied to value, proven by WORK which is determined by the value of the math itself, not by the value of the dollar or whatever market says it's "worth" like the retard chineseman thinks

Society cannot operate on such principles, but the global markets can and will operate on this system perfectly fine because capitalism is always the ones who innovate technology. This is already happening and cannot be stopped by anyone, a global war will only speed up the process. See; Zooko's Triangle, Accelerationism and The Byzantine Generals Problem for more information

If there is a world war it will be bitcoiners that launch the first nuke

do you think they manufacture and maintain those things all by themselves with no external support?

generally, they are more likely to use old tractors and methods of farming versus modern John Deere tractors with modern mechanized computerized farming machinery. They tend to invest in things entirely mechanical in nature that can be repaired and maintained over long periods of time. The only thing they don't produce themselves is vehicles and guns.

I think for things like solar panels or more advanced machines those supply chains would work themselves out eventually as there will always be a market of people that need replacement parts and someone with a machine shop can fill that need, the market exists entirely organically outside of any centralized forces and will persist in any disaster and with the level of technology we are at now it will likely thrive under such conditions.

I don't see any scenario of humanity sliding backwards unless there is a complete destruction and widespread loss of all knowledge for generations which is unlikely even in a global collapse.
