Really cool urban exploration video. Too dangerous for me to ever attempt. I saw them climbing past all the broken and missing stairs (walking up the railing) and I was like "yea, im too pussy for that". Then once at the top they climbed to the roof? and just ran around on the beams. Idk how far a drop to the concrete would be but I do know it would probably really hurt and even if I was safe that high up I'd probably wet my pants and be frozen in fear. When SOY and I went to King's Island there was a good reason I didn't go on any of those damn gigacoasters. I'd rather not fall to death from scared dying.
Anyways, it's surreal how rusty and dilapidated those towers are. I remember the movie and thought holy cow those towers look neat. I guess they were either in better shape then or it was all special effects. I wouldn't be surprised it they tore them down. Sure, they may be a historical landmark but at some point you get to a cost/number and you just throw it away because at the end of the day it's going to fall down.
It's true they haven't been used in nearly 60 years and yes the city considered demolishing them at one point. The cost to demolish was $17million and since it had been over half a century since there was any use the city decided to use common sense and invest $80million into restoration. With that $80million they did a science experiment to find out they should buy yellow paint and then used volunteers to paint the restroom underneath the towers "American cheese yellow". Having completed painting the restrooms all the money dried up and nothing more has been done except an arson attack.
