Big Screen TV or a Projector?

   I'm weighing the pros and cons but tbh have never owned a projector.
   My guess is the difference between the 2 are a tv is a tv and stands alone where as a projector will need a screen and also stereo equitment.
   Am I right?
   What am I missing?
   Which is better and why?
   I'm looking for something to put in my basement which has a kinda lower ceiling if that matters.
