I booted it up a few times, getting killed quickly and annoyed. But I was determined to have a good game, and KOTH was actually pretty fun the other day. I'm trying to get past the clunky gameplay one feels when coming from more arcade shooters. I am installing various mods at the moment, there is a PUBG mod that needs a shitload of other mods. I haven't really played any of the campaign, but I'm surprised it took this long to play Arma 3. Its basically like Operation Flashpoint, which I always touted as an amazing game for its time, except with proper multiplayer and a shitload of content.
Like I still don't know what Antistasi is but it seems fun if its perpetual war with different factions trying to take over, both AI and PVP I believe.
TL:DR
I bought Arma 3 after being disappointed with most games. PUBG runs like shit on my rig current day for some reason, runs worse every update, and gameplay feels like it goes downhill with every year that passes.
I've been interested in making a game ever since I started playing Counter Strike forever ago. It seemed like such a simple and effective use of the source engine for quick, competitive fun.
I know there isn't enough time for me to learn an engine or programming language, but I understand game development. Little experience coding and messing with player character models and textures in 3D studio max like 20 years ago, but experience none the less.\
How hard is it to get on fiver or find some skilled but cheap game developers out of work to put my ideas to work and just modify a current engine? Because with games like PUBG and Arma 3 and the like, all the tools are there for me to imagine what I am imagining, but actually putting it into motion, I have no clue.
I've been inspired by games such as Factorio and Satisfactory where Logistics are an incredibly satisfying gameplay mechanic. And no I haven't played Foxhole, but that is almost the closest I can think of what I am picturing. And of course I wouldn't just describe it to you, because its a genius idea and you'd just say "Wow I'm going to make this game with these incredible mechanics the highly intelligent eBagger is describing".
So yeah if you are a game developer or are familiar with coding games shoot me a DM or something and I can make you rich beyond your wildest dreams (I am so poor if I bought Foxhole I wouldn't be able to eat for 2 weeks) but that starving drive to make something excellent...sounds familiar doesn't it? Thats right, its the beginning to every success story ever. Now do the right thing, and help me make this tower defense/economic/strategic/FPS Battle royale/Perpetual war game.
your TLDR is longer than the rest of the post and I don't think you realise how much work goes into relatively basic mods like adding weapons or vehicles, let alone entirely new subsystems

unrelated: I want to try Tarkov
Oh ok cool. I actually returned Tarkov because of a mixture of how it ran (Maybe when I upgrade rigs) and the slow pace (I usually like the feeling of weight in my games, but you move like your a fatass in heavy gravity) but its definitely a top tier extraction shooter. The entire looting and item value is inspiring as well. One of the things that makes a great game is when you have extensive amounts of items ranging from abundant and lame to rare and awesome.
TL:DR
I do understand how difficult basic mods are, as I stated my relative experience. Which is why I was suggesting finding people who know how to do it and delegate. Or I could use one of those "Create a game easy!" basic ass template engines to even make something that resembles what I'm talking about.
Building a commercially marketable simple 2d indie game is a multi year endeavor for an experienced dev+artist. There are some extremely rare exceptions (flappy birds, idle games, stardew at least on the head count) but single dev commercial games basically don’t exist. Single author mods are a little more common but require extreme autism. If you want to even try you’re going to have to learn programming and get reasonably good at it. You can buy your way out of the art if you don’t give a shit about graphics or sound, but uhhh, if you can’t afford to buy a new game you’re not going to be able to do that route
BUT WHAT IF YOU USE UNREAL ENGINE FUYS ITS GOT ASSETS AND YOU CAN MAKE TOTAL WAR IN LIKE AN AFTERNOON JUST SPIN UP UNSREAL PLOP IN SOME ASSETS AND BOOM ADD SOME CONTROLS AND CAMERA AND YOU CAN HAVE A DEMO UP AND RUNNING IN AN AFTERNOON
AN AFTERNOON
Nah but seriously though lanny is pretty correct I am learning solo game dev and have been for years and I work with engines all the time and it's a mountain of work. I think anyone could make some shovelware shit game but actually making something good is hard.
Even making clone games or fan games or recreations of something simple in a minecraft mod is a lot of work. I mess around with lots of stuff and engines like renpy or pygame and I want to use godot because I think it will work well for an idea I have
AND THE TOTAL WAR REAL TIME WAR MARKET the way I see it, that entire series is just final fantasy but 3D and for computers which okay that's not easy but it's not like world of warcraft.
I also have a bunch of code for BBS games which are somewhat easy to mod but also hard because it's written in TURBO PASCAL and has wonky formatting but some of the code is easy to translate into stuff like javascript
write('-═-═-═-═-═-═-═-Trade Wars 2057 ver '+ver+'-═-═-═-═-═-═-═-═-');
There's already a zillion and one mods for it nigga. I got it about a year (or 2) ago along with a bundle that gave me 14,000 addons and mods. I started playing the alien invasion "mod"...it was ok but I don't have the patience for much these days, 30yrs ago it might have grabbed my attention but these days if after 1hr I'm still learning it I shut it off and go for a glass of milk and a nap.

skill issue
The following users say it would be alright if the author of this
post didn't die in a fire!
^ Cope is thinking it takes skill to press 6 or 8 buttons and wiggle a joystick
Get back to me when you can land a 747 on an aircraft carrier in a category 5 hurricane in Microsoft Flight sim 2020 using nothing but a toilet plunger and a 20 yr old calculator keypad.

sounds like a massive skill issue and cope to me yeah it's just button mashing let's see you play any competitive game against anyone that isn't trash you would get destroyed in pretty much any game.

okay? Sounds ez to me. I could do it with a fax machine as a monitor too. I literally grew up playing flight sim games as a child, they aren't hard. I understand that real pilots use them to train, I have actually been thinking about going on a flight school arc recently because crashing and dying for real sounds cooler than in a game but I heard the respawn times in RL suck
