I found an oldje satellite dish. I want to set up a pirate radio station or something or be able to use radio to contact the ISS or get free internet.

Wut do I need? A ham radio?

I also do not plan on getting a license and will be operating all of this illegally so if any of you got tips on doing that in 2023 I would love to know, thanks

You're like 15 years too late. Totse had a litty ham/pirate radio subforum. Maybe check the archives of that though.

You need an antenna to broadcast, not a dish dumbo.

It's the receiver. The dish collects waves and focuses them on that. You could probably rig it to do some cool directional stuff tho - tight beam type shit. Not great for broadcasting, but cud probs do something neat. idk

But really, a length of wire is "an antenna". You don't need anything special, really.

That dish only receives, you need to steal one of those sat internet dishes that also transmits.

I use to watch me some Bev/Bell sat back in the day when I fixed cards.

I used to build crystal radios back in the '60s. It's very easy, and you hardly need anything at all to do it.
