medical condition my ass, addictions are not diseases or “medical conditions”, but rather behaviors in which people choose to engage.
People are active agents in–not passive victims of–their addictions.
Referring to addiction as a “medical condition” is simply an attempt at avoiding individual responsibility and denial of any concept of personal blame for bad choices.
It’s a weak ass way of excusing personal responsibility for behavior that is a choice.
“It’s not my fault — my “disease” made me do it” is pure bull shit and nothing more than an attempt to excuse and remove any sense of personal responsibility.
No medical treatment will ever be created to excise addictions from people’s lives, and support groups that convince people that they are helpless and will forever be incapable of controlling an activity are better examples of self-fulfilling prophecies than of therapy. -
