Not everybody wants to tinker just to use a computer. If you aren't an idiot with windows you won't have a problem anyway and there is nothing wrong with wanting easy to use consumer products.

Personally I'm a writer and I've tried all sorts of writing programs but I'm comfortable with MS word. Why should I bother with Wine just so I can write in my favorite program?

You need not bother with Wine for writing you have Open Office on Linux. And not being stupid with windows is teh part most people seem to miss. You can't be stupid with Linux, because Linux just won't work if you are stupid. Also for games, you have Steam OS these days, that's Linux based too. All i am saying is Linux is just as good or even better at everything that windows is, except for games. But we got Steam OS and as you say VM for that.

That's really more than I want to deal with in an OS. Also hate open office. Doesn't save anything half the time when it crashes and the autosave is funky. I use Word from 2010 and its perfect imo. Scrivner is cool too, and it has a Linux version. I'd probably be using that if I didn't love Word so much.

Linux has its use but its not for me and its probably not for people like semi who get viruses that wont let them use .exe files. I tried playing around with Ubuntu once and it was disinteresting.

You're not supposed to be looking in HKEY_CURRENT_CONFIG, though. The keys are in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE.

Alright, so your configuration looks fine. Now click the little CD icon and select your rescue disk ISO file. After that just click start and it should write it out to your USB.

Honestly I don't even dual boot a version of Windows anymore. I keep a VM just for required software(specifically rooting software) but I'm trying to move away from that.

IMO, Windows is more for office environments and I guess gamers and of course idiots.

The sooner you learn how to use Linux, the better.

10/10 Thanks for helping me access ma pedo files. Fully satisfied Pedo Tech Support client.

I had this happen like a year ago. Not the same exact problem, but something just as aggravating. I don't consider myself a skilled master of tech but I do try to keep up. I just spent hours/days/weeks researching and seeking out more skilled people than myself to help me troubleshoot the issue(Good call on pestering Sophie with this, not so with Spec, he doesn't know as much as he thinks he does.) You learn a lot doing that. Instead of looking at this as a problem to be fixed and move on see it as a learning experience so shit like this is 10x easier next time and trust me... there WILL be a next time. Working with shit off this nature is just a issue waiting to happen. Before my grandma died she had a computer. I learned a few things from that experience every time she touched it she fucked something up, I don't know how (smart lady but very stupid in some areas technology being one of them.) Along the way Linux definitely caught my interest. I'm not ready to ditch windows atm but there may come a time. I'm not really happy with micrococks. Win10 is the most retarded shit I have ever had the displeasure of using not to mention the TOS and the companies history of doing shady fucked up shit.

I believe Linux needs more focus. There are so many distros. If devs could come together and unite on one (or even a handful) I think you'd have a linux os that is more competitive in the mainstream. As is now every one has their own special flavor of ice cream. If more devs understood and acted more in line with this quote, "United we stand, divided we fall" linux might be seen more realistic alternative for the average consumer. There is something to be said for the variety though. Guess when you have an open source you're always gonna have rebels, specialists, and pioneers marching to the beat of their own drum which isn't bad thing either. It keeps the concept of open source legit I suppose when you have so many playing in different directions but is the same reason it keeps in a more niche space than I'd like to see it. Proprietary companies hardware don't make it easy either.

Who knows with Trump in office we all might be running on a linux OS sooner than we thought... Astra linux. Not sure who would be worse having backdoors, Russia or Microsoft?

Distros mean a lot less than people think they do. Of the software running on a modern linux machine vanishingly little of it is true distro code, most being written by someone else and packaged by distro maintainers. Not that getting a bunch of autismos into the same room is going to produce good UX, which I assume you mean by "realistic alternative for the average consumer". The linux desktop is gross and the reasons for that go at least far down as the DE, I think as far as X, but in any case it's not a problem Ubuntu is going to fix by shittying another well PR'd level of abstraction/configuration onto it.

That's cute. I already promised if I ever did that, I'd do it on cam, and I've proven my honesty time and again.

Psycho, thanks for all your work, but it was just taking too much time, and tbh, I felt I should get a fresh start to my PC. So I ordered a Windows disk on Amazon, from a guy a with a lot of good reviews, transferred a few things that I wanted to keep on the USB and as soon as CD gets here, I format.

    Thanks again, though.

You have to have the correct drivers, too, though, after you format and re-install Windows. Most of the Windows generic drivers won't work for your devices. Some people don't realize this, have lost their drivers, and then end up fucked when they can't get their hardware to operate.
