I always listened to music while I work because you don't have to think very hard. Music while studying can be difficult because my brain tends to latch on to the lyrics or whatever and it's hard to focus on schoolwork. But lately I've been listening to psytrance and drinking a shitload of green tea and just shitting out lab reports like it's no ones business. Anyone ever do stuff like that?
I love me some music while i work/code/hack the planet. All kinds really, but i particularly enjoy Trip-Hop, LoFi, NuJazz, Hard Bass, Hard Style. Oh and metal, and actual hiphop. In fact i love all kinds of music.

depends on what I'm doing; when I was studying I actually found white noise to be useful - blocks out distracting sound without being distracting itself

Anything where the lyrics can at least be tuned out, but yeah preferably without. Triphop, psytrance, chillstep, goa, some classical, also just straight up techno like what I listened to in high school.
