    They were different times and different circum stances, that doesn't mean it is acceptable behaviour in modern society. There's no hard reason we decide upon 16 or 18 or whatever in most modern societies that was apparent back in 6th century Arabia or similar. For the majority of history, the actual biological line that was used to determine whether a girl was of sexual maturity or not, was puberty. It's only in modern society that we have developed an independent notion of a legal adult and recognised that it shouldn't correspond to puberty. Which is a good thing. Islam is compatible with this increased information and societal change but also provides the framework to understand why it is the case without condemning historical figures by modern societal standards.
