No access. Make one. Where is this place?

Fona.. is there an attic or tiny crawl space?

Is it an A-frame house/Apt or a flat tar roof?

Cut a little hole in the ceiling and put a bunch of cats up there to chase out or kill the rats and rabbis.

Now cover the hole with a thin layer of twigs and grass and then out a bunch of SPIKES and SNAKES on the floor in your room and GET OUT.

Well, first & foremost kiss your security deposit goodbye.

Second, if there are rodents up there they now have an unobstructed entryway into your apartment 👏👏
However I don’t see any evidence of rodents ( ie…droppings) typically they’ll be everywhere if you do have rats or mice or squirrels up there.

I had a mouse crawl into the blower motor of my truck ….that was a nightmare, but I found peppermint oil spray (it’s and excellent deterrent for rodents, they hate the smell so they stay away from areas where it’s sprayed) I’m spraying it under the hood 1X/week to keep them out of the engine, it makes the truck smell pretty good, you might want to try it.

You could also set traps with peanut butter, they love that shit it worked great in my apartment in the city caught a bunch of those little suckers using it. Gotta say the sound of the traps being set off in the middle of the night was a bit unnerving but they worked.

My last comment is the same one I made when you trapped the squirrel near the heater in the basement
LET THE LANDLORD DEAL WITH THIS SHIT

It’s his house, his responsibility and technically (double check the rental property laws in your area) but you may be covered for withholding rent payments until the landlord deals with the problem.

Can’t believe you actually cut a big ass hole in the ceiling of a rental property, that’s it.

First of all, I saw absolutely zero evidence of critters, so...you must be hearing things or have a ghost.

Secondly, you put a hole in a rental property ceiling! WTF were you thinking? You didn't really need that security deposit back or a good reference, did you?

Thirdly, did you check in the closets for an attic access as they are often located in them.

Lastly, where do you live? There isn't a stitch of insulation in that attic and it has to be costing you a lot of money to heat/cool that place. See if you can get the landlord to spring for some. You can even point out the wonderful access hole you made just for him!

Sometimes trap doors are on a-frame roofs that don't have access into the house from the attic. depending how safe your neighborhood is.

    thats why I asked.

Also, you live in Ohio and there is 0 fiberglass insulation between the rafters and Joyce's? LOL fucking hell.

Its a house nit my apartment.
The ceiling is fucking plaster (shoot my dick).
And there is only 10 inches between the joist and this other smaller fucking joist so i dont have much damn room.
I already made a fucking hole and now i gotta finish what i started.
Yeah, no insulation and the electricity bill was $200 last month...
Im annoyed as fuck at my little wiggle room as I thought Id have at least 16 inches to cut out a fucking square hole and climb inside.
Im not sure how the hell im suppose to work in such a tight spot or how to make it bigger without disrupting the structural integrity of the damn plastered ceiling.
Obviously it needs insulation and i just wanted to make a little hatch I could crawl up through, kill off the rats, haul some insulation up through and once i hot that done I was going to either leave a nice looking hatch or seal it all back up.
The gutters fell off the house and need repaired and until everything is fixed up proper Id like access to the attic to keep killing rats through.
This job started out as a simple little afternoon project that really quickly turned into a "fuck my dick" moment.
Ive got some lumber and just wanna get this done but the 10 inch spacing of that joist and the other joist thing have me annoyed as fuck and starting a new hole elsewhere probably wont help.

$200 is not that much for electricity, especially if you’re heating the house with electricity (unless it’s a really small house. We had a 2BR apt years ago with gas heat and sometimes the electricity bill was almost $300.
    Also:
Attics that are small (less than 30 square feet of area) or under a low-slope roof that does not have a minimum of 30 inches of clear opening height between the top and bottom structural members are not required to have an attic hatch by the building code.

    Or
The access opening may be there, but not in a place that you would expect to find it. Older houses sometimes have a ridiculously small (18”x18”) attic hatch in the corner of a bedroom closet. Stored items on the top shelf of the closet may be concealing it. Also, the access may a small door the wall of an upper-story room or high in the wall between the garage and house. Some very old homes have attic access only through a removable vent panel at a gable end wall of the roof.

If you don’t own the house ask the landlord, he’d have to be pretty stupid to buy a house who’s attic he couldn’t inspect.
The attic access opening may have been removed during a remodeling. This is not a good sign. If you find this situation in a house you are considering buying, do not proceed until the seller provides an attic access for examination by you and your home inspector.

Anyways, once again. before roofs had aerators built in with fans to cool attics and crawl spaces. some of the old houses had built trap doors to open up in the summer time to let hot air escape. they would lock from the inside if you had access to the attic. but some you just pulled up from the outside which had metal flashing around it just like a cellar door.

so had you just gone up on the roof, you would of probably saw there was one. and it wouldn't have been locked shut since you had 0 access from the inside. most older victorian houses and older fed-erra colonials structures still have them. unless someone removed them or put on an entire new easel.
