why would that person feel the need to watermark his image with the manufacturer's name, make and model.

That's what 99.9% of astrophotographers do...the number 1 question people are asked is "what equipment did you use" as well as for their own records, if you take 400 pics a year it's a reference point for years later when you are looking at them what telescope/equipment you used. I edited out his name which was the bottom line.

He actually didn't list much...many people list much more info than just the optical tube.

One of the worst things you can do to discourage an interest in astronomy is to buy/use a crappy highstreet store telescope...that's what happened to you.

No you don't...you got scammed..it's a common scam, along with having a star named after you/someone.

Most telescopes are monoculars. Do they make a Stereo-Telescope? that would be pretty cool.

But yeah, JigJo... you need to be out in the fucking cold clear night. Not a hot night. the atmosphere is distorted when it's hot. you need to be up high on a mountaintop. clear night. December is best because of the longest nights. you can get in fairly early around 11pm though prime viewing is 3am. They have these camp nights in some of the outer bay area counties. Like Black Diamond Mines where I use to live near. they have winter camping for star gazers. Sadly they started building way to many homes nearby so there is more light noise now than there was 20 years ago when I thought of taking my kids to one of them.

Im sure they have them in the mountain in the Sierras and Im sure parts of undeveloped Texas or Oklahoma should have places like that for you to set up camp and do this. take photos.

if you live on a ranch away from city lights, you could set one up on the roof and sit all comfy in your bedroom with a tracker on a tripod and computer software to tell where and what to follow. its cheating I guess but its how the pros do it now-a-days. you could build one on an old Feed Silo with a turret. that would be bad ass.

    You can buy stereoscopic eyepieces.

No you don't NEED any of that, being on a high mountain isn't practical for most people.

Of course the best place to be would be in space...but that's also not practical at the moment. A dark site away from a large city/town is fine...but again as demonstrated, even in the middle of the 4th largest city in the US...you can still take pretty impressive deep sky photos and lunar/planetary observation isn't really affected by light pollution etc.

Heat/Air turbulence is really only a problem for high magnification work too. Deep sky work is generally done at low magnifications.

    really ?

so if i duckduck 100 picture of objects in the sky 99 of them would contain watermarks of names and equiptment used.

I used a good one when I Was a kid with a light enhancement and saw the sun. It looks cool.

I've never really seen anything else because I hang around in cities and factories on the outskirts where the light pollution ruins the stars. Even living in the country I was on the trans canada highway in the heart of a valley so the place was flooded with light at night unless you climbed the mountain or went innawoods

I Don't even remember the last time i've seen a star
