   Did they tell you they lacked the technology of solid fuel up until the late 60s or early 70s? it would of took them days if not over a week to prepare for an all out launch without solid fuel. We could of hit them hard and fast in those years. the 1963 Cuban Missile Crisis was a lark. a big bluff on the part of the soviets.

   OP, In highschool back in 1981-82 we would climb a hill across the street from our home. took over an hour to get to the top. it was maybe 50 feet above sea level where we lived to 1500 feet. very steep hill. didn't look like a big hill but it was. nasty ass gnats and shit, humid from the grass and cow shit stank. but we would climb it and at the top, you could see all of San Francisco Bay and You stood over El Cerrito and Berkeley where Cal was.
   
   there was a NIKE missile silo right there. I mean it was just a metal plate that opened up and shot a NIKE up a mile or so and would blow up in the event a ICBM came at us. essentially melting the incoming nuke before it could detonate. Not sure if it would Detonate regardless.. but it was there for our Tuff-Shed Sardonic Security.

    I broke off a piece of fibreglass from the fuel container a soviet Satan ICBM last week and hid it under my mobile phone case, but now it has degraded to just carbon dust.
