the things they joke about are bizarre - he and his colleagues apparently think it's hilarious that the US did better than the Russians at the Olympics because thanks to their vaccine, the Russian team was 'loaded down with cancers and tumours' -

Even if big pharma took over every country on earth and force regulated them all to comply all that would do is drive that industry even further underground into the realm of organized criminal groups.
It would be like getting rid of a cartel or triad. You can do it but as soon as you do it creates a power vacuum that will be filled. It's the same mentality that thinks you can eradicate every weed and coca plant and arrest every drug dealer and "win" the drug war
there is no winning and even the most regulated and restricted countries on the planet deal with the same issues. Places like China and North Korea have lots of private citizens making illegal drugs without government permission.
If you push things underground enough you will end up with a criminal organization that looks more like a private army, which has already happened in our lifetime but on a very small scale. I would love to see them try because the consequences is exactly what this economy needs.
