it happened all the time with Trump and 'Russiagate'
I pay for an online subscription to the NYT and this is false. Usually corrections are posted within a day or two. Do you know why they post corrections? Because they are held to a standard. How many corrections have you seen from the post millennium falcon and epoch times? Nobody is insinuating the NYT is gospel but it's a better rag than a lot, mostly because it's so widely read it Inna free market and it's contributors know that. It's not perfect but journalism never is. I was incarcerated when russiag8 was kicking off so I wasn't reading it then. Since then I can't think of any other widely read publications that a) post stories first and b)try to get them as accurate as they can.
These things can seem inversely exclusive to each other as the newer the story the harder it is to be accurate and have the most details. I like RT too but they post some dumb shit sometimes, as does the NYT but the NYT are held to a higher standard and this can't really be denied. -

Obbe posts one sentence per post and usually esoteric things not concrete and factual. That is not what is happening. If you feel victimized by obbe I would have to infer you are completely lacking in substance for your position -

also, lol why
People read narratives because they find them soothing. Mass market publications present a clear world view, reality fan-fiction, that makes people feel better about their lives, gives them something uniting and thrilling to hate and fear, and makes them feel like they belong to a group of people who have something going on. It's like church.
I used to read Newsweek and The Economist back in the day, before I got annoyed at all the stories that so obviously had no basis in reality. -

because the NYT is the front page of the world, for better or worse, and it's worth the couple bucks a week to see it. Sometimes I buy a hard copy just to give to a family member who likes reading it/doing the crossword. I don't mind supporting that hebrew megalith because it's an institution, similar to any big box company. It has some well constructed articles too and although, like every single journalistic publication since the dawn of time, it has a certain slant, it's aware of its distribution and the eyes that are on it. It's published some salacious bullshit but so has literally every single paper ever. It's the front page of the world, if you're not aware of it, you should be because that's the standard. People dream of getting a story published in the NYT because they know people are going to read it and scrutinize it. I honestly can't think of a daily paper (with similar influence) that has a higher journalistic standard. Not whether or not you "like" a publication, as I mentioned I very much like RT but submit they are more compromised than the NYT -

I've had a subscription to the economist for roughly 7 or 8 years, including while incarcerated I circumvented institution rules to get them in through the library and through the mail. They have gotten worse lately but the old ones are gold for anyone who understands what it means to be a "classic liberal" enthused by neoclassical economics. I'm not sure what you mean by "back in the day" but in 2014 every issue had putin on the cover. 2017-2019 every issue has had trump. There are good articles in them, not all by any means and the features tend to be context specific and slanted (AS WITH ALL PUBLICATIONS) but it's got good info between the bullshit. More in depth, factual and involved with cold, hard numbers than most weekly's that's for sure. Don't really know a thing about newsweek. -

Do you even realise that the stories in it are reality fan-fiction? Just made up stuff to entertain and make you feel like you know deep secrets about the world? Ask anyone who has been at the centre of events what they thought about the media coverage, they all say the same thing - it was almost all bullshit. No one who has brains becomes a journalist, and that sort of fake understanding isn't something that interests me.
Don't you think there's a reason why they don't even allow their names to be put on articles? -
2021-03-11 at 3:09 AM UTCI mean just open up an article at random.
STANDING OVER a smouldering barricade as riot police draw nearer, Mohamed Thiam, a protester in Senegal’s capital, Dakar, does not mince his words. Macky Sall, the president, “wants to impose a dictatorship”, he declares. “We will not accept it.”
https://www.economist.com/middle-east-and-africa/2021/03/10/the-arrest-of-an-opposition-leader-sparks-protests-in-senegal
Thousands of people took to the streets in Dakar and other cities after the police arrested Ousmane Sonko, the main opposition leader, on March 3rd. They battled the police, blocked roads and burned shops. For days after the arrest the smell of tear gas wafted through the capital city.
Do you actually believe Mohamed Thiam said that to some reporter out on the street? Do you think riots in Africa occur out of love of democracy? Do you actually believe that the "smell of tear gas" lasted days?
Dollars to donuts they took AFP reports, and did some creative interpretation of the story. They never sent anyone to Senegal. Are you mad? When Africa kicks off the journalists get out.
I can't see more, I only see two paragraphs, and to be honest I don't have the stomach for reality fan-fiction. -

You're right, next time I'm remotely curious about something I'll just fly there and experience it myself because someone on the internet said that someone who had been at the "centre of events" told him they thought the media coverage was bullshit.
"why read anything mmaaaaaaaaannnnn??? Just go experience lyyyyyfffeeee duuuude" literally the most moon person thing I've heard in a while.

You are literally reading someone's creative writing essay.
If you aren't going to fly there just watch liveleak or something. Video is far more reliable.
