This feeling with everything being cancelled, paranoid, xenophobic fear in the air, anxiety, cruelty and fear being extolled as the highest of virtues, while the entirety of society is focused on a titanic struggle for no reason must be exactly how people felt during wars in time past. Of course, just like wars, the rich profit and go about their lives and their pleasure uninterrupted. They want this to last forever. The lockdowns mean shorter commutes, no line at the airport, and less filthy peasants out in nature. The cost, as always, will be paid by the poor and the workers.
