    how is it centralized it's literally the exact same as element.io

    Just don't have a partnered discord server. All of the illegal markets are on discord like runescape gold sellers, if you told them to set up shop on element.io they would laugh at you because nobody uses it it's small bux.

    The minecraft hackers are all on discord selling shulkers to 12 year olds for bitcoin. You are missing out on unregulated internet free money

    centralised because discord runs all the servers, with matrix you can run your own server (private or federated with other servers) and set up encrypted chats that can't be read by anyone other than the participants

    element is just a frontend/client, you don't have to use the matrix.org homeserver like our chat does, i could if i wanted to set one up on the server at my home and we could all use different matrix clients to connect

    main effect i think will be users who haven't backed up their keys will lose access to chat history if they log out or switch devices, and it might be noticeably slower to load/decrypt chats, but i haven't used it much either so i'm not sure
