new laptop or battery?

have you guys notice new models are fewer and smaller for more money when it comes to laptops this year? Is it Covid related or the trade war issues?

i have an older toshiba laptop. a satellite model. its got a 15.5 inch screen. looks bigger than the chromebooks ive seen. theyre like 14 or less.

the battery goes fast now. it used to be rated at 6 hours but with the brightness i like at 7/8 may last 3-4.5 hours.

i just installed ubutu .. looks cool. feels faster than the forced win 10 it made me get. pack 1

I dont have much covid money left for work related stuff. on one hand this thing is pretty large with a thick clunky case. but its still modern in specs. its the pre i5 i guess.

battery is 40-50 bucks. but the new laptops start off around 500 for an i5 to 800 for the i7 to 1200 or more for whatever is the new processor.

as for my pc. i need a new one as well
my desktop has 12 gigs of mem and an i5 and i thought the rendering on 3D would be uber fast. its only 2-3 times faster on renders. i thought it would be dozens times faster. my older pc was a dell about 14 yeas old. my new dell is about 7 and was out of the box. i5 for 250 bucks with 2 ter hdd. but the put it in and sold it with a new win10 installed. i told them if i could have an old win7 and they said no.

i bought one from Amazon but it wasnt installing free so i had to buy from MS 7 and they faught me for 20 mins and i said i want 7 because 10 wont work with 15 year old software.

plus there is fewer crashes with old vista era windows.

    Lol dat's suspicious...that's weird...

I just last night dug out my old Toshiba Satellite laptop and ordered a SSD for it from microcenter which I'm picking up today so I can utilize it as part of my scientific studies.

I'd probably go with a new charger, I have three lappys and it sucks because all the good stuff I have is on my older one and it started fucking up when I moved, it was already messed up, like the mouse didn't work screen didn't work and then the charger I got went out. I got a new hp though the other day.

oh no, the thing sat for years and the battery was slowly unable to hold a charge. i dont think its background shit dojng it.

It's pretty easy to rebuild laptop batteries yourself...cut the old one open to see what size cells it uses, order the cells of fleabay...stick em in the battery case..epoxy the case back together...voila, new laptop battery for $15 or so...sure it looks like ass but that just adds character to it.

3 hours isn't bad for a cheap lappy. Can't you plug it in or buy an inverter or whatever?

Yeah mines dead too, but I only intend to use it via mains power anyway so it matters not to me.

    charger? or battery?

i can just use a charger but it forces me to sit in one place. i want a battery to use it in my car. i could get one of those rechargable solar batteries you can charge at home in 3 hours by wall or 8 by solar panels but that would be heavy as fuck to pull out of the car to recharge. but the 300wh with 120v plug 19v converter are about 250 bucks. it would be more efficiant yet it would be like lugging a truck battery around if i wanted to sit in a park. ive seen people do it though.

that was my problem. youre supposed to remove it if you dont use it after fully charge. i never did. i thought it was a pulse or cycle charge and would shut off tbe battery connection when charge. these older laptops recommend you remove the battery so you dont burn out the cells.

    a 300wh portable battery?

what is value villiage? i bought one of these for my truck and paid 50 bucks for a chicago brand with car starter if the battery went dead. and it had usb and 120v output. but when i went to recharge it overnight it said it took 36 hours to recharge full 80% usually is max

    they have advanced since

Let me go to my car and take a pic of it..dunno what wattage it is but it's enough to power a laptop...pic to follow.

100W ...which is plenty for a laptop.

The rubber coating is melting though and is sticker than Vindictive Vinny's 12yr old cousin.

If you are buying an inverter you may want to go for a "pure sine wave" one. They have better overall compatibility.

thats an power converter that plugs into a cig lighter. my new suv doesnt come with a cig or power source.

ibwas talking about a box that has a giant truck or car size battery, but more advance. they now range from 350WH to 2000 or more. some are for off grid, but others are portable but heavy. like 22 pounds or more. thay charge up by plugging them in your house socket and then you unplug it and run shit off of it in your workvan, car or going camping.

yes, i saw the cheaper ones for solar charging have got those pure sine wave inverters placed in them. i think theyre becoming a standard but were the most expensive ones at one time. but again, having this on the floor while driving uber sounds a bit complicated. i kight consider a battery replacement. we have a batteries plus a few miles from here. they replaced radioshack it seems. but their shit was always pricier than RS

What the fuck...how you supposed to plug in an air pump for your tires? SMH car manufacturers are getting cheaper and cheaper...I had to buy my own spare wheel last time I got a new car because the thing only came with some bullshit flat repair kit and no spare.

If its just for a laptop then an inverter will do fine.

exactly. i didnt notice it lacked one at first until 2 days after i brought her home.

i was going to buy one of those and a portable hydraulic jack. i guess that is what road side assistance is for, and maybe just bring fix a flat

also it doesnt have line in or headphone jack. only bluetooth. it lacks some shit but will drive and stay in a lane for you and break if youre not paying attention

You could probably easy tap into a 12V line and add your own...still, not having one is pretty recockulous.

yep. i could add it to the battery and try and fishline it through the firewall of the engines battery. the guage of wire on the braid under the dashboard might catch fire if i jerry rig it. so i might just get a new battery or figure out where i can mount a portable power source that big. maybe both. in case i want to go fishing where its still legal to fish in this faggoted nanny state.

off topic, luigi complained you cant swim in lakes in the bay area. they dont want rottng corpses in the watersheds is what i told him. in case he drowns. the state dont take kindly to country bumpkin or white trash activities. you cant even trail ride on motorcycles anymore
