2020-09-16 at 3:41 AM UTCAnyone watched this/got thoughts on it? I heard it mentioned, thought it was interesting and started reading the comics (whole series went on sale on Humble Bundle around the time I heard about it).
From the quick synopses I've seen of the first few episodes, it seems like it's significantly watered down.
If you're not familiar, it's the story of how Nazis invented Compound V at the end of WWII, which is a substance that, when injected, gives people random superpowers ranging from cancer to super strength. It's notoriously toxic and hard to dispose of though so it's shown up in food, water and waste all over the world, and as a result a small number of people (guessing less than a thousand) have developed powers from it (many more had fallen ill or died).
This is a world where 'superheroes' are just average people with phenomenal powers, no restraint and no real consequences to their actions. The story is about a group of misfit antiheroes ostensibly contracted by the CIA but mostly driven by revenge and hatred for 'supes' meant to keep them in line.
It has deep themes of political corruption, capitalism buying out the political system and the consequences of militarising 'super power', ie. weapons that are supremely powerful and completely unreliable.
The primary villain is essentially an even-more American Superman called the Homelander:

2020-09-16 at 3:49 AM UTCyeah the TV series is what I was asking about, is it any good?
'the female', I haven't gotten far enough into the comics for them to explain what she actually is, if they ever do -
2020-09-16 at 6:36 AM UTCI like most stuff Garth Ennis has written. I actually prefer Crossed to TWD. The show is pretty decent. Reminds me to start season 2.

Downloading a few episodes now. If you're interested I can upload the comics; like I said they seem a lot darker than the series.
For example

It's definitely watered down from that, but I'd say it gets away with about as much as it conceivably could without creating the kind of public outcry that effects stock prices. -
2020-09-16 at 2:55 PM UTCI didn't even know it was a comic book. The show is cool and has good cinematography, it gives me all kinds of weird vibes and they really know how to make you laugh at innocent people being killed for no reason other than BLOODY FUKING SOUPS

2020-09-18 at 3:55 AM UTCI liked the comics but won't watch the show after PREACHER got BUTCHERED so badly it's fucking tragic. I liked the comix, won't watch the show. A friend of mine who didn't read the comics watched the show and liked it but I'm still very skeptical.
