   You really should do a proper look into McCarthy. Particularly the close cooperation between the higher levels of the US and USSR governments during WW2, which was very recent history during that period. Also the Venona project, which exonerates him to a large degree.
   
   The 'red scare' of the 1950s is much more reasonable than the current 'white supremacist scare' of 2020.
