I know this is a tired topic, but how the fuck are people religious.

  1. first off: more has been proven about the Bible than what has actually been disproven. only not everything is literal, quite a lot of it is figurative speech and a lot of what is not is simply ancient poetry, the entire tale of creation for instance, it's actually a work of ancient Assyrian poetry. Abel and Cain were not actually real persons and were not sons of Adam and Eve. They are literary figures that actually represent each a different city or tribe that went to war against each other.
The "Angels" come from the Mesopotamian "anunaki", meaning "people who came from the stars" hinting that people of the era were actually visited by aliens from another planet.

Now, EVERYTHING on the "New Testament" is mostly bullshit made up by the Roman elite when they all finally accepted Christianity. Remember that religion and the state ran hand to hand back then so they made up all kinds of shit to favor the ruling class and help keeping them in power. So is all the bullshit in the book of Leviticus all made up to favor the ruling clerical caste of the era.

If you actually inform yourself on the subject of the historical matters surrounding religion rather than asking an unbeliever or a dogmatic believer, you will find, as I said, more has been proven than disproven, and for the rest, it can't really been disproven. To disprove, you must be positive about its inexistence, and the it can't be proven thing is no disproof. "i haven't seen it" doesn't mean that it doesn't exist, it only means that you haven't seen it or that it hasn't happened to you, and arguing that nobody you know of has seen it either doesn't mean that absolutely nobody on existence has, and yet if that were the case, that wouldn't be a valid disproof either. Science can't still prove or define what life is our where does consciousness come from, for instance.

Second; once you realize awareness and life have little point except just to be, it gives it a better light to believe and expect something greater out of it than just eating, shitting, fucking and dying.

You say that I'm "noticing" a greater degree of hostility in your shitposting, which implies that you're the one with the sensitivity, not me.

I'm still failing to understand how my beliefs affect you if I don't force them upon you. Hell, I'm not even the one who brought this shit up.

Ok you're getting stupid right now. If i say two plus two is four, have i presented real world evidence? No, but logically we know that two plus two is four. Unless you want to argue logic doesn't exist you really haven't made any argument here.
  4. Religion is how we keep the plebs acting civilized. Of course anyone with half a brain knows there's no God or heaven and hell etc., but a society without faith is chaos.

And of course not. Gandalf isn't a fair and reasonable explanation for anything, either.

since you want to be a science faggot, you should know newton's laws

one of them says that matter cannot be created or destroyed

if you cannot create matter, then where did the condensed ball of matter that was allegedly the center of the big bang come from? science contradicts itself.

don't get me wrong, I believe that things that are within our capacity to understand have a scientific explanation, but that scientific explanation also goes hand in hand with what exists in scripture.

take for example the book of genesis, the period of creation. the scripture says that the earth was void. what caused earth to be void, you may ask. well, the same thing that killed the dinosaurs and brought about the ice age: the great heresy. when you take a second and think about the impact that would result from a spirit being getting chucked from one plane of existence into a planet, the conclusion that it would make a really big boom is pretty easy to reach. now, you can't dispute the existence of proto-sapien humanoids, because fossil evidence is there. its not like somebody just made it up. well, if we """"evolved"""" from them, at what point in time other than genesis did man gain sentience and higher brain functions? in the span of 7000 years of mankind's existence as we know it, we have reached levels of technological advancement billions of times greater than that of our ancestors. if we did this in only 7000 years, why couldnt pre-sapien members of the homo genus do the same and surpass us immeasurably? because they didn't have the same spirit god imparted into mankind.

at the end of the day, faith is not something that i can persuade you to adopt. nobody can. one day, it will hit you like a ton of bricks, just like it hit me. why would we exist if not for a greater purpose? if we were nothing more than stupid animals we'd be smashing each other with sticks and beating our chests like gorillas

Nope sorry, that's energy and that's thermodynamics which is a field helped along by a lot of people but Newton wasn't one of them.

The law that you fucked up describing actually applies to enclosed systems. The Universe is an enclosed system, what lays outside it is not subject to this law and it is this where the Universe itself came from. Same how nothing can exceed the speed of light within the Universe, yet the Universe can expand faster than the speed of light. Why? Because whatever it is expanding into is not subject to the laws of physics as they apply within our Universe.

Interestingly, the adverse happened to me. Having been a Christian of 'faith' for 28 years, it suddenly hit me like a ton of bricks how ridiculous I was being, as if my belief in my deity was somehow any more right than any other's beliefs in their respective deities, of which there are 100s, if not thousands.

I'm not saying there's anything inherently wrong with faith in a higher power, or a specific deity, I mean we all sort of believe in what we believe in as it helps us cope with the stresses of life, or find joy, or whatever it may be. Ultimately, it is called faith for a reason, as it involves believing in something that cannot be explicitly known to be true. This is why, while I am no longer a Christian, I don't rule out the possibility of it being correct, just the same as I don't rule out anything as potentially being correct. I can't know. I can have strong persuasions and beliefs based on experiences and what has been taught to me throughout my life, but I can't know, and so in realize faith in something particular cannot and will not ever be absolutely correct.

  10. Nobody thinks conservation of mass holds up in the early universe lol. It's not contradictory, just an incomplete model.

Also, anthropological evidence paints a pretty clear picture of how humans evolved higher brain functions gradually over a couple million years after switching to a meat based diet and learning to cook food, how moving out of Africa and into northern climates gave rise to agriculture and civilization shortly after the last glacial maximum, etc.. No need to call upon silly interpretations of an old book to explain it.
