Because every site that hosts videos inevitably changes their code up.

I just don't want to make an entire living out of it.

not if you do it the other way round by capturing the screen displayed on the player, frame by frame.

I cant link you to the sites videos because it's a course site that requires login credentials.

Huh, You're supposed to use the plugin inside chrome for it to detect videos and download it. Did you use Chrome and IDM extension, if you feed it the URL it will just rip the page.

I dont have chrome, I have firefox. I tried installing the IDM add-on but like all the others, it didnt do shit.

gadzooks, it's a site you pay to do courses on, theres no accessible videos without credentials which is why I didnt mention it, whats the point? I need a tool to grab any video from any site, if it only works for certain sites, it's already useless. I might have to just screen record like someone else suggested.

I miss the days when any video you were viewing could be grabbed from the browser Temp folder.

on my firefox if i give the media player long press a dialog will pop up with options to download media, play/pause, full screen, share etc etc.

you can also open the page source and look for links to .mp4 for the video link.

you can also try using vlc to play the video link and see if its saveable that way.

    Udemy, by chance?

Whatever the case, there is no such thing as a one-size-fits-all video grabber.

Different sites use different video hosting frameworks, and they are always discovering new ways in which they are being exploited and releasing updates accordingly.

It's like an arms race of sorts.

But yeah, you can't expect a single solution for every use case here.

    Lol.

You really think there's a one-size-fits-all solution for downloading embedded video?

I'm trying to imagine being that dumb, but I am failing.

Those are straight up normie sites to begin with.

There are downloaders for all of them.

But the people producing and hosting those downloaders have to continously update their shit.

So, like I said like 56 times already... There will never be a universal solution to download every last kind of video from a web site.

    Ex fucking actly.

You go volunteer your time to write a bunch of video downloader code.

Nobody wants to devote their entire life to such a shitty cause.

Writing code once to solve a problem == Noble.

Maintaining a repo for the rest of your life for such a problem == Retarded.

I'll continuously contribute to a project that cures cancer out of altruism, but not a fucking video downloader.

irregardless none of your codes are going to cure cancer. of anykind.

    none.

and the only way you can be an altruist, ever, is to maintain mundane, a dime a dozen, free video downloaders or ad blockers.
