Ugh. Energy drinks are placebo, sugar, and caffeine. It's a status symbol almost. Like an iphone. Or a store bought water bottle.
Take caffeine pills. All the mental alertness of an energy drink without all the crap. You'll be thankful in fifty years when your stomachs not rotting inside out. Same goes for coffee drinkers.

Also, if you die from drinking too many energy drinks, you are weak. Your lineage is weak. You are not worthy of life as a human.

Rumours the companies are spreading to start hype.
Only scientifically proven ingredients in energy drinks are sugar and caffeine. And yes, there's been a lot of research on them.

B12 is a vitamin. Not going to do anything if you've already got enough b12.

Only because it's acquired for coffee when your brain begins to associate it with the caffeine high. Sugar is used in energy drinks to drench out the severely bitter taste of caffeine. I'd take a glass of fresh juice over an energy drink anyday. Nothing better than starting your morning with OJ.

Not true. I don't take sugar in my coffee and when I order one for my girlfriend and drink hers by accident it tastes like shit to me.

With energy drinks it is true. With coffee you learn to like the taste because you associate it with caffeine. Your girlfriend is obviously having difficulty acquiring the taste, so she sweetens it up with sugar. The fact that so many people take milk and sugar in their coffee is a testament to it's acquired taste through association with the caffeine high.
