Anyone know how much power consumption an idle or sleep mode imac takes?

I have an iMac hooked up to a tv and always leave it on all night in sleep mode. Is this bad for the electricity bill?

you'd want to use something like this to guage how much power a device is using. it'll use very little in sleep mode though

They just mention idle. Is idle not being used but turned on with screen on or is this referring to sleep mode?

yeah idle is on without running any programs or anything. apparently about 1.5w to maintain sleep mode according to apple

For all iMacs. Mine is like from 2006 or 2009.

shouldn't matter which model; almost all hardware is shut down in sleep mode, it's just the motherboard that's kept partially powered

Thanks for the info. The other wuestion I have if you have time is do you know if power converters from usa to europe or pal electricity take a lot of consumption?

most 'tech' devices like laptops have switch-mode transformers that can run off of either 240vac or 120vac so there's no real difference in power consumption.

if you actually need to convert between the two there will be some efficiency loss in the conversion but it shouldn't be much
