As a matter of fact, I had just moved to the city living in the Richmond District not to far from the Marina and was working at SFO, but prior to that I lived in the Oakland area of the east bay and I used to drive to San Francisco on that Cypress Freeway. it had these weird sagging dips that people would say "I hope i'm not on this during an Earthquake"
they knew it was constructed faulty and kept it in a box because funding back then was probably less than they get today. Not a priority on their list when it should of been. A Double Decker Highway.. what could go wrong??
Also I saw this house in the middle of the street. it is near the Palace of Fine Arts. there was a roadblock (tape) and they started letting people run into their green and yellow tag homes but not red. to grab things in a hurry.. big rush of people running to their homes.
I wish I had my first video camera with me. We bought a Toshiba .. thing thing was the size of a professional camera almost. huge.
The guy doing the report is saying that (The Hayward) is 33% by 2043. yet they told us there would be the likelyhood of a 7.0 or higher by 2019. 30 years they said. which would be this year. and they said 66% chance of a large quake (bigger than Loma Prieta)
so they have downscaled this fear warning. but yeah, it's fucking coming. We had a 4.3 last month that we felt. it was a rumbler and not a roller (like being on rolling pins or on a boat with the wake of another boat flying by)
this rattled up and down a bit. The one in 1989 felt very strange. I had been in several decent size moderate quakes from the earlier 80s. like 5.0 we had 2 of them in 1980-81.
this one was rolling up and down and side to side and I got thrown off my feet and I took off running (They say never do this.. but fuck that small rickety building they tore down later) and I got pinned between some rental cars we rented. not pinned by pinched while I slid through the both of them. The guy that parked are rental cars like to park them really close.
enough that it hurt a bit getting pinched between them and knocked to the ground.
