Are people who enjoying playing video games less intelligent in general?

  1. #1
I used to love games when I was a kid, and obviously, like all children, I wasn't that intelligent back then.

As an adult, all the degenerate retarded faggots I know are huge video game fans. On the internet, the biggest video game fans are autistics.

Has there been a study to prove this?

My whole post will be dismissed because I wrote "enjoying" instead of "enjoy".

Yes, there have been studies. Quite a few to be honest. Video-Games are to the contrary good for the brain. Problem solving, reaction speed, hand-eye-coordination. Many athletes use their video game equivalent to train tactics or learn a track (F1 and MotoGP, Madden too).

There's an interesting study about brain surgeons that says playing video games reduced their failure rate by 30%.

I'm a real gamer and I'm smart as ruck so that's that.

EDIT: *fuck. I'm smart as fuck. RIP Big Ruck.

It depends on the dosage and overall environment in my opinion. Playing COD, hyped up on Monster while a bunch of 12 year olds call you a faggot for 14 hours a day is probably not that healthy.

It's like all other drugs. There's nothing wrong with partaking in the fun even as a regular hobby but once you start neglecting other things to feed your addiction, you're fucked. I for one just realized that I should take a shower. Collecting all Gwent cards in The Witcher 3 must wait.

Video games improve my hand eye coordination and memory. I find when I drive forklift I am using the same part of my brain as when I play PC games.

I think people with no hobbies that just watch TV/commercials or go on Facebook are unintelligent.

Im actually a member of several small groups that design/code their own game and run our own servers so I actually do learn valuable skills participating in these groups.

yeah, games themselves can effectively exercise skills that people in today's society often neglect, but that doesn't take gaming 'culture' into account

I don't think it's inherently degenerat(e/ive) to play games, but to take it seriously enough to build an identity around that is autistic as fuck

lately I've been getting monged and playing grim dawn from when I get home to like 3am though, so take that how you will

I think I'm good enough to play smash competitively. There are thousands of dollars in prizes in the high level tournaments.

This! Fuck the gamer identity, it just means you've got nothing more interesting about you.

I'm stupid as fuck but I'm a dropout so yeah, I wouldn't say games make you smarter though, maybe more skilled in certain stuff but with the way modern games baby you so much you're probably only learning how to be a sperg.

Some new games are challenging as fuck. Hard by design not by default like the old ones with shitty controls.

Playing The Witcher 3 has made me a better man. No joke.

Aldra and 13 have the right idea. The gamer who does not adopt the gamer identity is the one who benefits most. To make a virtual reality such a part of your reality as to identify as a gamer is to say that you are unconcerned with realistic goals. And it is not all gamers. Sitting around drinking, smoking and playing video games with the guys is not the problem. The problem is the children who are essentially born into it. Console placed in front of them from a young age. It fucks them up to the point that the video game feels more rewarding than real life interaction. There is a phenomenon that parallels this in the pornographic realm.

I refute the idea that video games promote violence because life promotes violence and video games accept that rather than encourage it in most cases. We are the evolutionary product of literally hundreds of millions of years and it has only been around 60 years since the reality of violence has been cloaked with this delusion of peace. Without the release of a simulated violence I feel that more individuals would use that time towards more destructive ends than currently do.

I enjoy three game series and thats about it. GTA, Portal and Fallout. I like them for very specific reasons and when people ask if I play video games I generally say no because I dont care about many other games than my big three. Sure I will branch out but it wont be new releases. About last year at this time I was playing Postal 2 a lot. Did it make me want to kill people? Not even once.

As has been said earlier, with any drug, its all about dosage. But another user of this site, a long time ago, pinpointed a recognizable model for addiction. If your life was without that thing one day how would your behaviour change? How would you function? I think the answer to that question really figures out if anything is being a hidden detriment to your well being, be it drugs, video games, porn, eating, meditation or shitposting.
