Should I get a shelftop sound system or build my own cd player

   I could get an HTPC case and build a cd player, in that case I could replace the cd drive when it goes bad eventually but with the shelftop system I could use FM and AM radio occasionally for some nostalgia.
   
   I think the HTPC route sounds more wise in the long run since as long as the CPU doesn't fry I could theoretically keep it going for decades.
