Turn light problem

  1. #1
So my turn light (front) started blinking real fast and isn't as bright as it should be, it's a dual element light so I figure one of the elements died.

I replaced the bulb and it was fine for about 30 mins then the same thing happened...figured the bulb was bad as it had been sitting my hot car for 3yrs.

bought another pack of bulbs and put it in, same thing happened 30 mins later (back turn bulb is fine btw).

I googled around and found a few people saying to replace the bulb socket so I ordered one off Amazon and put it in at lunchtime.

Same shit...flashing one element and much faster than it should.

    So 4 bulbs, 1 socket...no solution.

A couple of people said "you have to replace the whole headlight" which will be like $300 or something stupid...any car guys here have an idea what it could be? before I give up and let the dealer castrate me.

Are you saying that the indicator bulbs in your car have two elements and they both go on and off at the same time?

That'd be really weird imo. Are you sure you can't get a normal indicator bulb to replace the dual element one with?

well if its older it could be a bad wire shorting out but ifn its newfangled it could be a computer issue

They also act as running lights I guess, hence the two elements. The top one is very bright...so bright I can't tell if it's lighting both. ON the right side which is working fine it's just very bright.

The left one is the dim/fast one...i can see on that one only the lower smaller element is flashing...so it's like the bulb is in the wrong way but there is only 1 way it can go in.

It is a "normal" bulb in that it's the exact bulb the manufacturer recommends.

Did you think about looking for LED replacements? Doubt it'd help, just might be worth a shot.

From what you say the problem sounds like it is the cars electrics not being able to keep up with the power draw from the indicator, which could be due to a bad diode somewhere. It's fucked.

When I had a similar problem with a newer vehicle, I took my car in and told the mechanic to just replace the 4-way flasher cube (relay encased in metal). He informed me that couple of dollar item has been replaced by a circuit board and charged me a buttload of money to replace it.

I know he wont read this until he gets to work but find the fuse for the turn signal and replace it with a fuse that has double the amp rating. You will find the problem.
