Except the electoral college isn't equal or fair, and disproportionately gives rural populations, who are predominantly white in most of the country, more voting power. It's a sham democracy. Hilary won the popular vote by about 7 million. In literally any other democratic country, she would have won, because most countries understand that everyone should have an equal voice. The electoral college does not provide everyone with an equal voice. The idea that it does is frankly laughable. It's a fucked up system that keeps America in this backwards and non-representative two party system, which is why neither the Democrats nor the Republicans want to get rid of it. It benefits them to only give the American people two choices. It's a winner takes all system, rather than a representation of the people's opinion.
Funny how literally the rest of the voting world understands this, but Americans will still fight tooth and nail to have their opinions oppressed by the system.

It is the conditions of these camps that are deplorable, inhuman, and un-American. I've already addressed why in an earlier post. If you can't accept this you are a fucking idiot. Even Trump accepts this (even though he initially defended the inhumane treatment in these camps) and that's why he signed the massively bipartisan bill that granted emergency funding to these centers, in order to make conditions better. It's why there is currently a bipartisan effort to increase funding to these places, so that we DONT hold people in inhumane conditions. We don't even use any sort of democracy to determine most of our legislation, so any shit you can say about protecting rural interests doesn't even make sense. They're going to protected no matter what. People in rural areas don't have the ability to advocate for that sort of thing. They can't vote for higher subsidiaries, or lower taxes on agricultural machinery, or any of that shit. Do you think rural America is going to fall apart or something if we actually gave people equal voting power? They are the backbone of civilization. Nobody is going to let them fall. If we did, we wouldn't have food.
And even so, rural America is suffering hard right now, under Republican majority and a Republican president. Suicide rates in rural America just hit the highest point it's ever been at. So tell me again how the electoral college is helping them? It should be noted that literally every other elected official in America is chosen by popular vote, and not by an electoral college. Senators, Congressmen, Governors, etc. Why should the President/VP be any different? -
