The US army reverse engineers all captured alien technology, including captured genetic technology. The "grays" are actually expendable test-tube creations of the US military. They are grown, then trained to perform basic tasks, eventually trained to perform more complex tasks, such as flying aircraft, reconnaissance and executing various missions. Then there are the real aliens themselves, who currently operate under the law of non-interference. You can't see the real aliens unless they want you to. They are cloaked, and so are their ships. Their cloaking technology enables them to "shift" between planes of existence, thus defeating time and space altogether.

It's true. And among the real aliens, there is an army of defectors, about 10,000 of them, who have been marooned here on Earth until their trials have heard closing arguments. These defectors went rogue and breached the non-interference rule and were thus arrested, indicted, and then marooned, while their trials proceed. They are pleading not guilty. That's why we all have to go what we're going through right now, because these renegades have made certain legal claims in their own defense, which must now be proved or disproved in their High Court.

Imagine you were teleported with nothing but the clothes on your back to 3,500 B.C.E., with the knowledge you have now. You are now in a place where the wheel has not yet been invented. You have the knowledge to build another teleporter to get home. You decide the first thing you need to do is build a teleporter out of whatever materials may be available in the new society you find yourself in. You need to create electricity, wires, metals, components, plastics, etc. You can do it, but you need to use only the raw materials of the age which are at hand. This actually happened to the bad aliens. They were stripped of their belongings and marooned here on this world, in this time, with no way to get home. They are millions of years old. Their wealth of personal knowledge is immense. Their science makes our science look like child's-play. Over the millenniums, they have fashioned themselves powerful ships of energy and steel, which orbit this planet now, as we speak, fully cloaked from the human eye. But the ships of the good aliens make even these ships seem wooden and crude. The ships of the good aliens are made of and powered by energies unknown to man, and can traverse time and space in the blink of an eye. Majestic floating cities of lights and colors and thoughts.
