People who think cigarettes are a part of them

  1. GGG Self Important (banned)
This is the dumbest excuse for smoking I have ever seen in my fucking life. People who think cigarettes are a part of their personality.

Is your personality so fucking nonexistant that you are using cigarettes to bolster it?

This isn't a fucking anime where the character has a cigarette as a prop and shoots fire from his hands and never faces the consequences of his actions.

The types of jokes you tell, the way you present yourself, THAT'S personality. Cigarettes are not personality. Don't act like it's a fucking baby bottle. This kind of shit embarrasses me to see.

"Wahhhh I'll die before I give up my cigarettes"

Yeah, you fucking will. Piece of shit.

I've actually never heard anyone say that "cigarettes are a part of them".

But to be fair, even though I am not a smoker myself, I understand addiction all too well.

Associating your personality with your addiction is not that unreasonable.

This bitch nurse I worked with got Chantix to try to quit smoking. She took it for like, a day, and when I asked her how it was going (I had very little respect for personal topics when I was benzo'd), she was back to smoking bc
"I suck at taking pills lol, i cant remember to take em lolol)

That's fucking retarded, that is as lame of an excuse for "I don't wanna" as any. I'd like to say "Have you tried putting the bottle next to your toothbrush? How about putting the bottle in your purse where your cigarettes are."

I smoke because it helps with my anxiety, it helps calm me, and frankly, I enjoy a good smoke. It probably helps slightly too with my mental illness due to the low affinity maoi in tobacco. I believe it's why many schizos smoke. I'm sure Malice would have more to add if he were here regarding that.

It's not part of my personality, hell, ideally I wouldn't smoke at all, but at least right now in my life quitting isn't an option at the moment, and considering I'd rather be dead than live another day, I don't really have an incentive to quite.

I don't think people are pieces of shit because they'd rather die than quite, but they are shallow as fuck if, like you said, they consider it part of their personality, something where they'd lose some of themselves without having said crutch. I love my smokes, and I smoke like a freight train, but I'd lose nothing of myself by quitting. I'd still be me, still same personality.

Nobody outright says it, but you can usually tell who believes it when they say they'll quit smoking when they die. Like they literally can't even comprehend living and not smoking.

I have been addicted to many things in my life, cigarettes among them. But I've never said I would keep doing it forever and ever until I likely die from my addiction. MOST addicts have some desire to quit or curb or control their usage in some way. But this attitude is way more prevalent in cigarette addicts than any other type of addict. I think it's because cigarettes are legal, available, and non-obstructive to daily life. It's easy to have it become a part of yourself. I think the same goes for coffee, though that is a much more benign habit than cigarette smoking.

I'm writing this thread because there's an asshole I care a lot about who won't stop smoking. I've gotten him to take up vaping, but only to 'save money.' You'll meet a lot of older smokers with this attitude.

Yep. Smokers always have the dumbest fucking excuse. You'll never hear a meth smoker give these excuses. They just do it because they enjoy it.

Hell, I have an e-cigarette and I use it every hour I'm awake. I enjoy it but I'm not gonna say shit like "my life is so garbage I just can't possibly quit right now maybe later." I mean you can always quit. I've quit vaping just so I wouldn't have to go back to cigarettes while on vacation, since my ecigarette was illegal where I was traveling. I've quit in some of the worst periods of my life.

'Forgetting' to take a pill to help you quit is especially dumb. Such a see-through excuse. Like when people say they're looking for a job but 'nowhere is hiring.'

The cop-out option is to just vape, which again is what I do, and what every smoker who has trouble quitting should do. There is no excuse to smoke. If you do, you should just accept that you're fucking up your body, accept that you do it because you enjoy it, and quit giving excuses. I enjoy a cigarette once in a while too. I get it. But that shit is poison and if you're an intelligent being you are knowingly ingesting that poison on a regular basis and that's fucking stupid.

I somehow (luckily) have some kind of immunity to nicotine/tobacco addiction.

I literally spent $100 on a fancy vaporizer and some 'vape juice' or whatever the heck you call it, just to try it all out, out of sheer curiosity.

And now I just have a $100 device sitting on my desk that does nothing for me.

I don't know what it is about cigarettes/tobacco/nicotine... it just never appealed to me.

But I have been a hardcore heroin addict, am currently an alcohol (drunk every single night), etc.

Nicotine just doesn't seem to do anything for me.

I suppose I should be overjoyed for this unexpected immunity.

Actually that kinda part of why I spent $100 on a vape. I knew I could use it for more than just nicotine juice or w/e.

Yeah, the way you summed up the categories of drugs the other night is practically the exact way I feel about them.

Dissos- good novelty, harder ones are actually very introspective, but not in the classical sense. In an incredibly peaceful way, I can't recreate with anything else. I think they broke my brain though, so I don't wanna talk em up too much. bundy is good for when you wanna be a Blanket Warrior, but it lasts too long. They all last too frickin' long. I don't got time time to be mostly high for 2 days.

Stimulants- I've done enough research, and I'm kind of repulsed in the stomach by them. The bitter taste, the 'Phet Sweats, and I don't do stim comedowns. High is worth it once you've done it a few times. Still haven't tried tek though........

MDMA/Ecstacy drugs- I know I'm gonna sound like a 16y/o faggot here, but these are special drugs. I haven't done them extensively or regularly, and I don't necessarily get the urge to do them very often. They aren't really appealing unless the environment is right. Very useful for synergizing with other category drugs. Esp high dose psychs, I highly recommend that, I thought I was in heaven. I literally felt infinite pleasure that got exponentially better every second for a while. It was almost overwhelming, but it really wasn't, in the right setting, that combo would be paradise.

Psychedelics- God tier. Haven't used with regularity. If there's no need, there's no need. Can be years, never again, whatever. You'll know when it's time.

Opioids- I've done enough research. I think about them more than anything else though. I felt like benzos always took away from Heroin when I was on it. I wonder what it would be like with an otherwise clear conscience. I won't do them. I don't know if I would go back to H or not, but I don't want to take that risk.

    Nitrous is good stuff

Benzos- If you know anything about the DietPiano lore, you know that I hate them. I hate Xanax. I hate Xanax culture, I hate Xanax rappers, I hate Generation Xanax (not really, Gen Z is pretty cool), and it's annoying to see how many people in my rehab group are barheads.
I guess the only other benzos I had were IV midazolam when I got my false tooth, and IV Ativan when I kept walking around the hospital tripping on lsd, looking for people in the other rooms, which scared people. That felt alright.

    Gabapentin- The best drug.

Nicotine- Makes extroverts feel more confident, makes introverts more anxious.

Alcohol- Is a mid-tier drug with above average euphoria, but it's poison and impractical. It's treated as life's dessert, and that it is the culmination of American life. You work 40 hours a weeks and feed your kids so that you can justify drinking poision that makes you feel good enough to slobber on your boss's cock. I mean, it feels good, but it's not the reason to live by any means.
I personally don't care for it much, and haven't since first year of college. It's take it or leave it for me, and I choose to leave it.

    Inhalants- High risk, high reward.

Cannabis- Not for me the handful of times I've tried it. I've always wondered if trying each of the pure strains would help me find something about it that I like well enough to want to do it, but that's just a passing thought. It's the drug of the lowest class, unsuccessful people that play Fortnite and eat generic Cheetos, and I'm not sure what to do on it I guess.

    Steroids- I know nothing.

    I think that's it.

You and I see eye to eye when it comes to a lot of the drugs you mentioned.

But I especially wanted to refer to opioids...

    Opioids are too good.

I have been opiate/opioid free for four years now, and will continue along the same trajectory for as long as I live.

It's because once you're hooked on opiates, if you're an opiate-type and not a stimulant-type, at least (lol, like we're drug Pokemon or something), there's no turning back.

I know so few people that actually kicked an opiate addiction.

I ended up in the psych ward while I was getting clean because I legitimately felt that life without opiates was meaningless.

So, anybody considering opiates, I'm not here to tell you what to do with your own choices, but really, really imagine what life can be like if you are OBSESSED with one, and only one, thing.

Happiness and opiates become one and the same.

    That's not a good thing.

Why do you think nicotine makes introverts feel more anxious?

I'm an introvert, but not an anxious person socially, and nicotine doesn't make me feel any which way. It's mostly just a conversational piece like "hey what vape you got what juice is that can i try here's mine"

This is one of the most fucked up thoughts you can have, seriously. One hell of a cage.

I've felt like this before and looking back? Kind of amazing how a drug can control your mind like that. I've made it a point since then to never do one thing for too long of a time.

Like recently I just was smoking weed for the past 4 or 5 months. Now I'm bored of it. May not buy any again for several months or more. I have no desire to do it whatsoever, whereas I wouldn't mind a drink or two right now.

Mainly it's because I'm in a different period in my life. I quit a good job and crossed something off my bucket list, so I'm kind of in a transitional period where I need to be conscious and able to actually do shit and improve again instead of just coast along with my good comfortable job.

Yeap, drugs/addiction are powerful forces. Hence why I said above that I sympathize with addicts of all varieties, even cigarettes, for which I have never felt any compulsion for.

I always just figure that, if someone is addicted to something, even if it's something I could never see myself being into, it's probably the same feeling as I had with opiates.

Yeah it's those transitional periods in life that can be especially hazardous / conducive to addition. I'm in a similar situation, working at a job that I never would have imagined myself having, and I telecommute and everything, so I find myself doing more and more drugs and drinking earlier and earlier in the day.

I have to keep myself in check.

You can sympathize with someone while still realizing their behavior is totally fucking retarded and illogical. I mean I definitely recognize it in myself, so why not in others? There's nobody here to offend anyway so I can rant all I want.

Well, empathize, not necessarily sympathize. A lot of people don't realize there's a difference between the two.

If someone is going on about how their need for a cigarette is the be-all, end-all of the universe, I can resent their unnecessary and exaggerated complaints and sense of self-importance.

But at the same time, I get where they're coming from.

You can empathize with someone and also tell them to STFU at the same time.
