And, suddenly twice in one night.

First time experiencing dreams within dreams, though.

I don't even remember. Earlier this week I had a dream that my dad and I were redoing a friend's bathroom, and I noticed the friend's girlfriend was sitting on the floor with her back to me looking at pictures laying on the floor in front of her. I thought she looked a lot like mom from behind, then I realized that his girlfriend is black and that it wasn't her at all.

That from an hour's sleep because I tossed and turned all night until just before I had to be up anyway. I woke up with fucking tears in my eyes. It took everything I had not to lose it in front of my son first thing in the morning before sending him to school.

I dreamed I was eating a giant furry marshmallow and when I woke up the cat was gone.

I'd prefer to hear more about abnormal things like sleep paralysis and other sleep disorders. I've experienced it off and on since I was a kid. This time however, there was no fear or shadowy figures or anything like that commonly associated with sleep paralysis which was kind of weird. If I hadn't woke up in a rush because I overslept, then I might have remembered more details about my dreams.

everybody knows what sleep paralysis is already. people just feel special whenever it happens to them and thinks it warrants telling everyone they know. it doesn't, literally everyone has experienced it before and hearing about other peoples nonsensical dreams is always boring as fuck how have you not learned this in 30 something years on the planet?

I frequently have hypnogogic hallucinations. Typically I'll wake up and believe I'm working on something diligently when really I'm just sitting up in bed, and by the time I figure it out, I'm usually late and pissed off.

You're right, it's just when you wake up paralyzed, but some also see shadow people. It's not uncommon, and it's often dreadful.

I've had that a few times. Once it was so vivid that I kind of questioned my reality every day for about a week.

I know that feel. Hang in there. You'll be comfortably numb shortly.

Seems if you are seeing shadow people you are not really awake...or fucking nuts...and if you are awake and cant move it's not sleep paralyses..as you aren't asleep...

Sleep paralysis is sort of like a limbo between consciousness and sleep. Your brain shuts down some motor function while you sleep so that you don't act out your dreams. Sleep paralysis occurs after that happens, but before you fully fall asleep.

I think the sense of dread and fear commonly associated with it is more about a loss of control than anything else; your semi-conscious brain struggling to explain what's happening.
