downloading movies illegally

2016-11-02 at 1 AM UTCI've been doing it for years and have never had a problem but over the last say maybe 9 months, twice I've gotten warnings from my cable company telling me quit and they listed the movies I was stealing, the second time I got a notification (second movie) my internet was turned off and I couldnt get back on it until I signed an agreement to not do it a third time. what the fuck. I don't use a vpn, as most people don't and I don't understand why I'm having this problem. What should I do? seems kind of weird since ive been doing this for years at different locations on different laptops and have never had a problem..

I don't use a VPN, but after a serious warning, I would have at least tried a VPN.

The reason the economy is so shit and recovering so slow is because everyone takes from the system without giving back. If you download a movie and don't buy a copy or go to a theater or use netflix or rent it you are taking without giving back.
It's all fun and games now but resources are finite so eventually this will collapse.
Thats why I use services like Steam and Netflix and also buy physical copy blue rays and vidya games to contribute a good economy.

I use a seedbox; it hasn't been in the news much but they've slowly been ramping up anti-piracy laws over the last few years - a large chunk of the TTP/TTIP is related to it as well -

I'll check that out, ive heard vpn's slow things down.. but i just find it kinda strange that after years of downloads (i dont download stuff all the time, just when I have a girl coming over or I want to throw a few new songs on my usb) that I'm getting these weird fucking emails. -

I used too do maybe 5 movies a month tops. i only download movies when I have someone to watch them with . I've done way more before with different IP's with dif computers in dif parts of town and have never had a problem. I don't really watch movies that much and most of the music I have i've had on my external hard drive for almost 8 years.. -

yeah I have no idea what you're talking about many bands wouldn't tour around the world if it wasn't for people listening to their music from downloads. I used to buy music all the time even while napster was around. Bands make most of their money off of touring, not record label sells.
If it was all about buying cds's off of the jedi reccomended media list so many bands now adays wouldn't be around. Plus theres bullshit like pandora yada yada yada where you can just listen to shit for free and dont have to pay for so whats the difference?
I'm against censorship and anti-pyrating. the economy isn't shit because of piracy, still plenty of idiots buy blue rays and go spend money to eat popcorn. People also buy nice things like hd-tv's to enjoy these forms of media.. so it equals out. plus comanpys like blizzard charge you prices to be able to play their games.
it all evens out in that area of things

That is def odd. I remember years ago, they shut my service off and they told me it was because there was a really nasty virus. I had to reformat my computer and prove that I a virus protection installed before they turned it back on.
As far as dl/streaming, I've had that issue. A few months ago they sent me a standard message, but I looked it up, and at least Xfinity can't actually do anything about it. That suck though. Hope you had a decent amount of shit saved. -

depends on where the vpn is located; most of the good ones are either in countries with strong privacy laws (scandinavia and EU) or countries that have bigger problems than internet piracy and hence don't really give a fuck what comes through (eastern europe). when you're routing internationally yeah, speeds and latency are affected.
you can use a domestic VPN which will be quicker, but they're more likely to collect your details and pass them on to copyright trolls or just disconnect your service if they receive complaints -

That's not even close to true. A huge number of tours net a loss. The motivation is almost always to promote commercial sales of recordings and merchandise. -

he's mixing up two different ideas - first point is true; most bands make little money off the tour itself. the bulk of their income is from merchandise sales
the promotion companies and record labels actually finance the tours though, and they make little - it's treated as an advertising exercise to boost CD and online sales, where they make the bulk of their profits.
I have no idea what the case is for bands that aren't reliant on a record label or promoter and generally just tour locally -
